A three-week old baby girl, who was abandoned at the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) football field by an unknown individual, has been discovered by one Zainab Sesay of No.11 Collier Street off Bush Water in Goderich Village.
Speaking to the Awareness Times on Wednesday 25th November 2009, the brother of Zainab Sesay, Mohamed Sesay informed said on the 18th November 2009, his sister Zainab left Goderich village and was heading for Ogoo Farm to assist her elder sister in harvesting her crops. The brother went on to say that on her way to board a vehicle at about 6:30am, she passed through the MMCET football field were she discovered the three-week old baby partly wrapped and lying on the right hand corner of the road, crying.
According to her sister, Mr. Sesay went on; she became terrified but sympathetic at seeing the child lying on the hard ground in the open cold with no proper clothing to cover her body, except a small piece of cloth that was wrapped around her hip.
However, he added that his sister took the child and reported the matter to the Adonkia Police Station and that she was later referred to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs.
According to Zainab Sesay, on reaching the Ministry on Wednesday 24th November 2009, she was issued a temporal adoption permit so that she would take care of the baby until the Police and the Ministry conclude their investigations as to the true ownership of the baby.
The three-week old baby is presently living with Zainab Sesay at her Goderich address.
Zainab assured the Awareness Times that even with her present little earnings, she will do all she can to make the baby feel the love of a true mother for as long as the baby is with her.
