This Time, I Stand with Zainab Bangura

I am no fan of Foreign Minister Zainab Hawa Bangura but this is one time when I find myself in sympathy with her. Ever since the recent acidic publications in other media, I have been bombarded with questions from my vast readership as to why I was not also publicising the scoop that has supposedly exposed Zainab Banguras clandestine 2012 ambitions against President Ernest Bai Koroma.

I have responded to all my readers that as far as I am concerned, Zainab Bangura was not only innocent of those particular charges as levied but from my over twenty-years experience as a close media observer/participant, I am cocksure Zainab Bangura is a victim of a conspiracy by certain person(s) angry at being absent from the just-concluded Donor Conference.

Truly, what made the attacks so reprehensible and despicable is that they were cowardly launched behind her back during a time when she was in the Holy Land of Mecca and not expected to engage in heated verbal exchanges with others.

Readers would note that this newspaper published the startling revelations of Mrs. Banguras Beggar-Beggar Letter to India with news that Anti Corruption Commission would have questions for her to answer upon her arrival from Londons Consultative Group Meetings. However, we were soon to learn that she would not be returning from London but going on to Mecca. Immediately we learnt this, we ceased fire on the Indian Rice publications and have been patiently awaiting her return home when she would face a barrage of questions from us about those Indian rice Letters.

Others simply could not develop the decency to accord the woman time to finish her religious rites before launching the cowardly attacks. They thought they would succeed in their mission but what they might have ended up doing is to create immense sympathy for Zainab Bangura by those with the discerning ability to detect that the origin of the attacks was not out of love for President Koroma but out of a malevolent desire to revenge.

President Koroma will one day know his true enemies he has positioned around himself but this will only be after he leaves office and these his true enemies remove their cloak of hypocrisy and start turning their pens against him and spilling his secrets in the media in the same way they are now coordinating the foolish revenge attacks against Zainab Bangura through the media.

As for Zainab Bangura, they say she would be returning home today and I hope she is prepared to face the public and answer questions on the Indian Rice saga. All the other wishy-washy allegations about her 2012 Presidential ambitions, if I were Zainab Bangura, I would simply ignore them as they are not worth her time to explain away. They have been more fluff than substance. Regardless of how much I am not a fan of Zainab Bangura, only a truly unpatriotic person would say our President walking shoulder to shoulder with the future King of England, H.R.H. Prince Charles into a crowded hall of international dignitaries all championed by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, was a foreign policy failure!

Indeed, the London Meeting was a failure in the sense that we received paltry pledges but this is due to issues like the total lack of respect for women in this country and declining good governance parameters. Aside the paltry financial pledge, in all other respects, the London Meeting was a massive Foreign Policy success for Sierra Leone.

Indeed, I have been one of the strongest critics of Zainab Bangura but this time, I have only CONGRATULATIONS for Madam Zainab Banguras efforts that made the London Consultative Group Meeting into a Foreign Policy success.

Having said all of this, let me now hand space over to the Foreign Minister so she can start explaining away her role in the Indian Rice Scandal.

I am all ears Madam Foreign Minister Wey we Res from India?
