Several citizens have over the weekend contacted the Awareness Times to register their satisfaction and appreciation over the manner in which the Acha Kamara led police force regulated this yearís Christmas celebrations.

The citizens were more appreciative of the efforts of the joint police team that adequately polices the Lumley/Aberdeen Beach environs.

Senior personnel of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have confirmed to the Awareness Times that there is no record of crimes and casualty during the Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations in especially the countryís beaches, where most citizens and foreigners alike do celebrate their holidays.¬†

Apart from those who telephoned and visited the Awareness Times offices to express appreciation, owners of hotels, night clubs, bars and restaurants located along the circumferences of the beach areas also showered praises on the SLP, especially the Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) of the Lumley Police Division and Congo Cross Police Division, Chief Superintendent Alhaji Gibril Kabba-Kamara and Superintendent Mohamed Jobe. Those interviewed by the Awareness Times singled out the two senior police officers for their active involvement in ensuring police visibility in the nook and cranny of the city.

It could be recalled that the two LUCs, on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th December 2009, deployed over two hundred police personnel to man the beaches. The said personnel were drawn from the Lumley Police Division, Congo Cross Police Division, Police Training School in Hastings, plus some members of the recently formed Community Safety Volunteers (CSV).

The joint operation was personally supervised by the two gallant LUCs under the mandate of ensuring that the beaches are safe and free of crimes including robbery, bags and phones snatching, fighting, and drowning.

Mr. Kinn Cheng, a bar and restaurant owner along the beaches, stated thus: ďIn all my three years of doing business in Sierra Leone, I enjoyed this yearís festive season more than all the other years as a result of the strong police presence and crime free atmosphere. With the presence of this patrol teams in the beach, I can now trade all night and my customers can also visit my restaurant without fear of criminals as it used to be. I am also happy that these two holidays have passed without any incidence of drowningĒ.

This reporter caught up with LUC Gibrill Kabba-Kamara along the beach areas. The LUC was using his private jeep to patrol the beaches. He told Awareness Times that the joint team was selflessly supported by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Western Area, Mr. Chris Charlie and the Inspector General Brima Acha Kamara. He assured that his men will continue to secure the citizens in order to record a peaceful festive season.

ďWe will continue to police our areas of command, with special concentration on the beaches throughout this festive season and we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that our people enjoy their festive season without fear of crime,Ē said LUC Mohamed Jobe of Congo Cross Police Division when contacted.¬†

Amidst the hardship in the country, the Christmas was celebrated peacefully and happily. Mask devils, carnivals, night shows, outings, and other activities, formed part of the Christmas celebrations.
