Doctors at the Emergency Hospital in Goderich are still struggling to save the lives of several citizens, who were involved in a gruesome road accident that took place along the Lumley/Goderich Peninsular Highway on Sunday 27th December 2009.
Eyewitnesses have attributed the cause of the accident to over speeding and reckless driving.
The accident took place some fifteen metres off the Lumley/Goderich main bridge and it involved a white commercial minibus that was being driven by a teenage boy called Mohamed Bangura aka White Boy and a blue wood carrier truck with registration number ACP 864.
According to eyewitnesses, the mini-bus and the truck were both coming from the Goderich end with the mini-bus driving after the truck.
“Two other private vehicles were in between the bus and the truck”, an eyewitness informed.
It was also confirmed that the vehicular traffic to Lumley was moving at a slow pace.
It was alleged that the mini bus driver became impatient over the traffic jam and decided to use the opposite lane in an attempt to reach his destination without further delay.
“As the minibus driver changed his lane, he became panic when he noticed a vehicle approaching him at a high speed,” another eyewitness told this press, adding that the struggling minibus driver finally run into the truck.
The minibus was badly damaged with it passengers severely wounded.
Rescues had to use metal elements and sticks to damage the minibus and remove the dying passengers.
It was also disclosed that the minibus driver was trapped inside the vehicle, and that rescues spent several minutes in removing him from the vehicle.
The driver and passengers were rushed to the Emergency Hospital in Goderich.
