Joint Force Commander of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has profusely advised the one hundred and seven (107) Sierra Leone Peace Keepers, prior to their departure for Dafur, Sudan.

Brigadier Senesie O. Williams counseled the team on Friday 29th January 2010 at a ceremony held at the Lungi International Airport.

The ceremony attracted several important military top guns including female Brigadier, Kestoria Kabia, Brigadier General Mohamed A. Sesay, as well as family members and pressmen.

Brigadier Senesie O. Williams said the troop will be representing Sierra Leone at an international level. "You are Sierra Leonean Ambassadors to the UN Peacekeeping Force. In that regard, you are expected to demonstrate excellent and positive behaviour" he pointed out.

According to him, this is the very first time that Sierra Leone is sending such a very large number of soldiers to UN Peace Keeping Operations, adding that it will please the UN to request for more troops if the departing troops comport themselves to accepted standards. He advised them to strictly go by the command structure and work as a team.

Peacekeeping Troop Leader, Major Alimamy B. Sesay, assured that they will succeed in their mission.

"We are logistically okay to work within the UN mandate in Sudan" he said.

According to her, an advanced troop of fifty three men had earlier departed and deployed in Sudan.

He explained that they have received peacekeeping training from soldiers from America and the International Military Advisory Technical Team (IMATT), adding that the programme was supported by the Government of Sierra Leone, Canada and the United Kingdom.
