President of the All Peoples Congress (APC) led Government of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, has assured residents of Kailahun that his government was very committed to develop that part of the country.

This assurance was made to the people of Kailahun on Saturday 6th February2010, during his maiden visit to Kailahun Town, since he was elevated to the Presidency.

"My government deals with actions for the development of the country, and does not rely on mere intentions" he emphasized.

He commended Kailahun residents for the befitting hospitality he and his entourage received throughout the visit.

"The people of Kailahun deserve better and my government is very much determined to bring development to this district" President Koroma assured, whilst expressing delight over the commissioning of the first phase of the road project that spans from Kenema to Pendembu.

He assured residents that the second phase from Pendembu to Koindu will commence before the completion of the first phase, adding that the proposed road is going to be a first class international road that will benefit countries of the Mano River Union (MRU).

The President urged the Kailahun people to closely monitor the project so that it is constructed to acceptable standards, whilst pointing out that he will be undertaking unannounced visits to see how the project is doing.

In his welcome address, Paramount Chief Banya thanked the APC led government for renovating the famous Kailahun Court Barray.

He also thanked the President for finally kick-starting the long awaited road project, whilst expressing hopes that the phase two will continue as proposed.

He assured the President that the people of Kailahun are ready to work with the government in order to achieve the Agenda for Change.

In his statement, Chairman of the Kailahun District Council, Tom Nyuma commended the President for the numerous development projects his government has commenced in the district.

He used the forum as an opportunity to outline some of the challenges they are faced with and called on the government to swiftly intervene.

Statements were delivered by representatives from the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC).

President Koroma is expected back in Freetown today.

Meanwhile, the Awareness Times will be serializing exciting events that occurred during the Presidents visit to Kenema & Kailahun. Newsworthy details including that of the Cormuels (Chameleons) that took over the district over the weekend as well as that Gbaa Nya Fakees unfortunate behaviour would be published in all of this weeks upcoming publications.
