All Peopleís Congress (APC) Member of Parliament (MP), who also doubles as the Chief Whip in the House of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Bundu, has dragged senior electionsí observers to court.
The senior observers of the National Elections Watch (NEW), including the National Coordinator James Lahai, Chairperson Francess Fortune, and Spokesperson Ngolo Katta, were arraigned before Magistrate Henry Sandy of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1A on defamatory libel charges on Wednesday 17th March 2010.
The aforementioned electionsí observers stand accused of using a NEW Press Release to publish defamatory statements against Hon. Ibrahim Bundu, contrary to the Public Order Act of 1965.
Two of the accused persons were present in court whilst the other was conspicuously absent.
Defence Lawyer Henry Gavao argued that Francess Fortune was absent in court because she was never served the summons, adding that she is currently out of the country.
He also applied for bail, which was granted by the presiding magistrate in the sums of five million Leones each plus two sureties.
The matter was then adjourned to the 15th April 2010.
It could be recalled that the National Elections Watch (NEW) issued a press release in January 2010, accusing Hon. Ibrahim Bundu of Constituency 52 of interfering with the paramount chieftaincy elections in Dibiya Chiefdom.
