Three persons, including Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Conteh and one Kadiatu Swarray, perished in a fire incident that occurred at their residence in the odd hours of 9:30 pm and 11:30pm.

The sad incident which led to the death of the aforementioned deceased persons, took place on 30th January, 2006 at the Old Wharf, Wellington in the east of Freetown. Sources close to the incident intimated that the fire was caused by a tiger generator owned by the deceased husband, Mr. Alpha Conteh.

In an interview with one of the occupants who escaped unhurt, Miss Aminata kamara, she intimated that the late Mr. Alpha Conteh usually put on his generator at night to scare away thieves and to watch movies. According to her, whilst the generator was on, a sudden loud sound from the direction of the said generator was heard.

On inspecting the generator, it was discovered that its fuel tank had exploded and that by then, flames had over taken nearly the whole compound which made it difficult for them to escape, she explained. What made it even difficult was that the compound was made up of board houses, she further said.

According to her, concerned neighbours came to their aid but to no avail.

Reports further stated that the entire house burnt down to ashes and all the valuable properties therein completely destroyed.

It was after the whole thing that it became evident that the three persons mentioned earlier had been burnt to death.
