Awareness on Bird Flu gaining grounds


According to reports monitored the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in collaboration with other development partners are bringing people to know more about the deadly avian influenza (bird flu)
In doing this, it is reported that, participatory workshops are in progress to sensitize politicians, religious leaders, the media, and community activists about how to prevent contracting the disease.


Armed Robbers Attacked Military Base


The Murray Town Military Base in Freetown of the Maritime wing of Sierra Leone Armed Forces is reported to have been attacked by gang of armed robbers.  The repelled robbers reports say, were on a mission to attack and rob two arrested boats. 


Disabled dies for lack of medical fees


A report claims that a 37-year-old disabled beggar, Tamba Alimany Nyama was abandoned by a doctor in Freetown to die because he could not afford a Le.25, 000 medical fee levied on him.  This event is reported to be one of series of problems disabled persons are facing country wide.


Fish scarcity hits hard

 

An acute shortage of fish supply is reported to be affecting markets in Freetown and other parts of the country.  According to reports, the fish scarcity is attributed to the seizure of fishing nets by Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources officials, coupled with the introduction of the GST by the National Revenue Authority (NRA).


University lecturer lifts Africells Dream House


Reports have it that one Patrick Martin George, a lecturer at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone has emerged the winner of the most coveted  Africell Dream House draw. Georges dream reportedly became reality when a blind kid, Mohamed Kamara from the Milton Margai School for the Blind manually selected his name from the kitty.


ICASL to host ABWA 9th conference

 

The Institute of Chartered Accountant of Sierra Leone (ICSAL) according to reports will be hosting its 9th conference of Accounting Bodies of West Africa (ABWA) in Freetown.  Participants from 15 West African countries will be using the forum to discuss and share ideas on the current state of accountancy profession in the sub-region.


3rd Round Polio vaccination kicks April 23rd


In a bid to eradicate poliomyelitis, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, WHO, and UNICEF and Rotary International will start another round of country wide polio vaccination on April 23rd this year, reports say.  The vaccination exercise will reportedly be targeting children under 5 years old.
