In Sierra Leone, Standard Chartered Boosts King George's Home

One of Sierra Leone's leading Banks, the Standard Chartered has donated a huge consignment of food stuffs and use clothing to the King Georges V1 Home for the Aged in a ceremony held at the King Georges V1 Home for the Aged compound at Kissy in Freetown. The donation ceremony, held on 27th April 2010, is part of the bank's activities lined up to mark Sierra Leone's 49th independent anniversary celebration.

Presenting the donation, the Chief Information Officer for Standard Chartered Bank Madam Crimilda Cole noted that his institution has a long history of 116 years in Sierra Leone and continues to remain an integral part of the country's economy. She said their desire to assist the local communities helps to alleviate poverty and truly demonstrates that they are in Sierra Leone for good.

She said as Sierra Leone marks its 49th independent anniversary they are especially delighted to celebrate with people of the King Georges V1 Home for the Aged. She said the donation is in partnership with their estimated customers such as Commodity Trading Company, Saad Group, Freetown Bottling Company, Rasatex, Rawabi, Green Field Farm, Amoba, among others. Citing some of their contributions towards the home, Madam Cole she went on that they have constructed a community hall for the residence, build a perimeter fence of the home, and their annual staff visit to the home to celebrate Sierra Leone independence anniversary crowns it all.

She further disclosed that the items donated includes 9 bags of rice, 5 bags of onions , 5 bags of sugar, 25 gallons of cooking oil, 1 bail of used clothing for adults, and 5 cartoons of soft drinks.

She assured the residence of the Bank's continued support while wishing them a happy independence celebration.

Receiving the donations the Matron King Georges V1 Home for the Aged, Madam Jenevive Coker thanked the bank for showing love and support to the aged and thank them for celebrating the independent with them. She however on behalf of the home assured the bank that they will take use the gifts for their intended purposes and ensure that it benefits all in the home. Similar donations were also made to inhabitants of the Milton Margai School for the Blind in Freetown and the Paul School for the Blind in Bo respectively.
