In Sierra Leone, Zain is Still NO. 1

At Zain we are very proud to have sponsored this biggest ever concert in Sierra Leone AKON CONCERT. This is a natural follow on from our sponsorship of several group and local musical initiatives. Over the years music has formed a big part of the magnificent Zain Brand, says Keith Tukei, Zains Commercial Director.

AS for AKON, local artists and subscribers from Sierra Leone witnessed his sensational performance at the Zain sponsored MAMAs 2009 Awards in Nairobi, Kenya. From his sensational performance at the Zain sponsored MAMAs 2009 Awards in Nairobi, Akon, who co-hosted the show together with Wyclef, set the stage alight at the National Stadium. Akon is no stranger to the Zain family as he has performed in several of the countries we operate, under Zains auspices.

Kelvin Kellie, Zains Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications states that Zain has for the past 10 years actively supported the Governments nation building drive through CSR programmes like Build Our Nation and other sponsorships in giving back to the communities and people of Sierra Leone.

We perceive sponsorships as a unique communication platform that helps us build a strong and lasting relationship with our communities and fast growing customer base. Zain has been actively sponsoring events and activities at local, regional and international level that reflect its mission, vision and brand values.

Zain is headline sponsors of Akons Independence Day concert in Sierra Leone, and this is not a strange thing to the company. At Zain, music has always been a key pillar in our evolving music strategy to give consumers everyday access to it; music has been part of our brand building initiatives such as this one that we know appeals to our targeted segment (Youth) and has been used to enhance brand relevance through brand association with many such initiatives.

Through this partnership with AWOL and Gibril Wilson, Zain, Sierra Leones leading network, is demonstrating its commitment to the promotion of musical talents, which we believe are among the best in the world. We are committed at Zain to exposing the Sierra Leonean Market to world class music. Over the years our relationship with music has been phenomenal.

Zain was the first Telecoms Company to Award local artists and give them the opportunity to perform alongside the likes of 2Face and PSquare. According to the Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, Kelvin Kellie, the aim of this annual event, which is an epitome of the Grammy and Cora Awards, was to encourage local artists in their contributions to the promotion of the country through music. He said the music industry has contributed a lot in providing source of income and employment for the youths in the country. He noted that the local music industry has grown tremendously with young Sierra Leoneans always showing their talents and as well improving on them.

"We therefore need to come up with such events where our local artists see themselves as being appreciated for their own efforts in contributing to the development of the country," Kelvin Kellie said.

Other music programmes include Mandela Concert, MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain as sole sponsors and West African and East African idols to name but a few.

Zain Sierra Leone continues to lead as N0.1 in giving opportunities to all Sierra Leoneans and Non-Sierra Leoneans artists and non-artists in the country, to experience the scintillating performances of world class super stars such 2Face, PSquare, and Akon.
