Police IG Acha Kamara to replace Christiana Thorpe?

Media reports assert that the current Police Chief Brima Acha Kamara is being earmarked for the position of Chief Electoral Officer for the 2012 Elections. Thorpe is being roundly rejected for a second term by many ordinary members of the two main opposition parties in the country, the SLPP and the PMDC. Whilst the PMDC Leader, Charles Margai has made no secret of his wishes for Thorpe to be sacked, the SLPP Leader, John Benjamin is yet to make public the official position of the party towards Christiana Thorpe. Thorpe entered the Hall of Infamy in many bastions of the Opposition SLPP when she took the illegitimate decision to cancel the votes of numerous citizens during the 2007 Elections; most of them from SLPP strongholds.

CID Boss suspended

Reports monitored say the Head of Criminal Investigation Department (CID,) Chief Superintendent of Police Musa Bockarie Lappia, has been suspended indefinitely. The reason for his suspension reports alleged is because he slapped Mrs. Mariama Munu, wife of his senior, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Operations, Mr. Francis Munu during a scuffle at the Kingtom Police Barracks. There are wide speculations that Mr. Lappia might lose his job.

Lymphatic Filaraisis invades Freetown

Lymphatic Filariasis, locally known as Big Foot, according to media reports has suddenly surfaced in Freetown. It is stated that the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has planned to administer free vaccinations for the disease, whose surfacing in Freetown has been attributed to unprecedented rural-to-urban migration of persons. The disease, which is said to have a stigma, has so far been very uncommon in Freetown.

Security beefed up in Pujehun

Local tabloids have reported that over 200 security personnel have been assigned to Constituency 91 in the Pujehun District ahead of the by-election slated for this weekend.  There are claims that Pujehun is on a time bomb, as the opposition SLPP and PMDC accuse the ruling APC for possible thuggery and electoral malpractices.

Police fight over Le6million drugs money

According to reports from local media some officers attached with the Kambia Police Division are at each others throats for Le 6,000,000. The money which is said to be a bribe that was paid by four men suspected of trafficking cannabis sativa was accepted, but the officers refused releasing the suspects. The suspects are reported to have now mounted a request on the police for a return of their money because the deal never worked as planned.

Bumbuna shut down - Ogunlade

It has been reported that the Bumbuna Hydroelectric dam was shut recently because of a fall in its water level. The Energy and Water Resources Minister, Ogunlade Davison, is quoted to have justified the switching off of the turbines since the minimum 210 metres of water is not available. The shutting down of Bumbuna, reports say, is adversely affecting business operations as electricity is being even further rationed than before.

Lawyer wins Le5,000,000

Reports say legal luminary and human rights activist, Melron Nicol-Wilson has bagged Le 5,000,000.00 from the Comium Take 5 promotion. He is reported to have expressed pleasure for winning by calling on non-Comium users to join the GSM provider. The lawyer is said to have emerged the second winner in the 7th weekly Take 5 draw.
