Leicester Road Blame APC for their plight

Residents of the Leicester Road Community in Freetown blame the APC government of Ernest Bai Koroma for the underdevelopment of their community as they remain in dire straits for basic services such as portable water and good road network. This was disclosed to our reporter on Friday 14th May 2010 by the community chief, who doubles as the deputy Susu tribal headman for the Western Area, Pa Foday M. Kamara at his residence. The chief disclosed that during the last days of the SLPP, he came together with some community elders and wrote a project that was forwarded to NACSA to afford them portable water. "But as the SLPP lost power and the APC took over, the project died down even as we have made several representations to the MP and councilor to revive it," he lamented.

He said in addition to lack of drinking water and good road network, the community also lacked a police post, a community hall and health centre. "Development in this area is not improving we need help from government. That is why I am appealing to government to help solve the water crisis as well as the bad road problems for us," he said.

The chief said even though their MP, Hon. Manley Spaine and Councilor Samuel Bongor Sesay were doing their bits, there was need for intervention from government and other meaningful organizations. "The government should work together with the people because we know our problems," Chief Foday M. Kamara stated.

He was very concerned that school children especially spend long hours at night, and some wake up at 4:00 am to go down the streets in search of water. "This is a serious problem because that robs them of their time to sit down and study at night which is negatively telling on their academic performance", Chief Foday expressed. He is therefore, through this medium appealing to those concerned like Guma and the SLRA to help them solve the water crisis and road problem.

He ended by also calling on the IG to give them a community police post as according to him crime rate is high. "The people are violent and sometimes deaths occur during scuffles among them and as a mere chief, not all cases I can handle."
