State House 419er Syndicate uncovered

A criminal gang operating from State House in Freetown according to reports has been exposed. Its members who are allegedly attached to Office of the President are said to be working in connivance with officials of the Mines Ministry under the purview of Hon Alpha Khanu and the police to swindle investors. The gang ran out of luck while trying to kidnap an Irish national whose US$ 800,000.00 had been earlier fleeced by crooks highly connected to State House. He was reportedly however re-invited by other set of crooks posing to assist him to investigate the matter. The 419ers reportedly used a State House car to go on kidnap mission of the man, who was said to have been treated badly and handcuffed. The police were said to have acted swiftly to rescue the Irish and arrest the rogues. Many people praise one Streiby Logan for his fast thinking that led to the apprehension of the rebellious State officers who have been criticised as behaving like AFRC-RUF rebels.

Kenema Storm disaster destroys 30 houses

Local tabloids have revealed that over 30 houses have been destroyed following a heavy storm that breezed through Ngeiwoma village in the Tunkia Chiefdom of Kenema District. At least 100 people have reportedly been left homeless and are expecting aid agencies to alleviate their plight. Provincial reports say violent storms have characterized weather conditions since it started raining this year.

Trouble erupts at Sierra Rutile

Reports have alleged that a standoff has ensued between the management of Sierra Rutile Company and land owners because the company is allegedly refusing to honor its corporate social responsibilities. As the misunderstanding heightened, students who had nurtured grievance for the company drivers for refusing them daily lift to and from schools joined in by erecting roadblocks to prevent vehicles from plying. The residents accuse Sierra Rutile of refusing to honor their contract obligations.

Mayor leads raid on PZ street traders

The Mayor of the Freetown Municipality, Herbert George Williams on Thursday 20th May led a combined team of metropolitan police and officers of the Sierra Leone Police to raid petty traders around the PZ roundabout. On orders from the mayor, the desperate officers went ahead to confiscate wares displayed on the ground by the traders. The essence of the raid was to minimize traffic jam as the traders are responsible for the blocking of street often resulting in traffic hold ups. They were reminded of the demarcation line FCC had allowed them to display within, but that many have over stretched to disturb vehicular traffic flow.

Gruesome accident claims four lives

A fatal accident that occurred along the Freetown/ Waterloo Highway on Wednesday this week killed four people and injured several others, reports say. A commercial minibus with Registration Number AEN 156 is said to have somersaulted when one of the tyres got deflated. He could reportedly not control the vehicle because of the neck breaking he was in. The injured are currently responding to treatment whilst the dead are in Mortuary awaiting postmortem examinations at Connaught Hospital.
