APC denounces partys slogan


Reports been monitored have indicated that the ruling APC party members are uncomfortable with their Osai Owai party slogan and intends to change it soon.  The slogan which means violence in one of our local languages, Temne keeps branding the ruling party as a violent political party, local tabloids have stated.


Disabled pursue Rights to Education


Members of the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues are reported to have campaigned against their inaccessibility to quality education countrywide in Freetown last week.  According to reports, the president of the union, Kabba Franklyn Bangura is said to have condemned the situation being contrary to the United Nation Convention to which the government is a signatory. 


Lottery Company suffers huge losses


Mercury International, a soccer betting firm financier reports say is in shambles after losing about Le.  600 Million in last weeks draw.  The   losses is said to have happened after 2500 players of the  Kings Cup Play Offs, and Under 17, 19, and 21 betting on Wednesday May 19th 2010 emerged winners. An unnamed woman patron is said to have won Le.42 Million at a go.


Gun Seller in Police net


One Mohamed Sheriff has been arrested by the Police on May 20th 2010 in Freetown with a pistol and magazine containing three bullets. Upon arrest, Mohamed Sheriff is reported to have disclosed that he bought the arms from a wholesaler in Karina, Kambai District for Le.  200,000.00; and was on course to sell it for US$ 250,000.00 to a yet to be identified foreigner.  The Police is investigating the matter, reports say.


Prisons Services takes over Special Court


The Prisons Services is reported to have signed an MOU last week which allows the government of Sierra Leone to own special Courts detention facilities reports say Prisons Services while operating the facility indecently will be sharing the premise with the Special Court.


Timber Exporters frown at high governments tariff


A group of timber exporters are uncomfortable with governments new tariff of US$10,000 for a forty-foot container load.  With ban on timber export still in force, exporters who have paid the old US$ 1,000 per container still have their consignments withheld at the Freetown port, unable to meet the new demands. This has reportedly caused frustration for the timber exporters as they are being automatically thrown out of business.


Procurement Authority indicts 3 Ministries


Three ministries, those of Defence, Health and Education are reported to have been accused by the National Public Procurement Authority of flouting procurement regulations.  According to reports, the Chief Executive Officer of NPPA, Dr. Alfred Herbert Kandeh is not pleased with the three departments as their actions grossly militate against fair play in financial management.  He said such dishonesty also facilitates corruption which consequently undermines the Countrys development
.


Free Health Care in Big Setback


Reports have revealed that the recently launched Free Health Care Service Delivery is facing a big setback as most of the drugs, including Malaria medicines have run out in most of the Peripheral Health Units and Clinics nationwide. According to UNICEF Logistics Specialist Consultant, Joseph Banda there has been an increase in the number pregnant women, lactating mothers and under 5 children visiting health facilities since the launch of the project barely a month ago.
