Military Lorry kills pupil


A Military vehicle last week Friday ran into a six-year-old boy, Abu Bakarr Kabi along the Fourah Bay Road and Patton Street intercession while crossing the road.  He was said to be a class I pupil of the St Philips Primary School, close to the scene of the fatality.  He was reportedly in company of some of his friends.


World Vision donates cattle to Sisters United


A Non-Governmental Organization, World Vision over the weekend donated cattle to a community based organization, the Sisters United at Sumbuya in the Bo District. According to reports the animals will act as catalyst for the involvement of women in animals husbandry. It was further reported that the organization is involved in series of agricultural activities.

 

Police arrest 10 with 40 Bags of Diamba


Reports from the provincial district of Kambia say personnel of the S L Police recently confiscated 40 bags of dry leaves suspected to be marijuana Diamba from farmers who are now helping the police in their investigation.  Ten suspects were reportedly apprehended in all for unlawful possession of contraband drugs on a tip off in two villages, Motong and Fodaya.  The police were also reported to have burnt down about 600 acres of cultivation.


3 State House body guards remanded


Three State House close protection security guards, Alhassan Bangura, Alimamy Mansaray and Ignatius Thomas were early this week refused bail and sent on remand at Pademba Road Maximum Prisons by Magistrate Henry Sandy of Court No.1A in Freetown. According to reports the accused were charged with offenses of conspiracy to commit felony, attempting to choke and false imprisonment. According to the particulars of offences, the accused were recently arrested by police over allegation that they attempted to kidnap on Irish investor who was in the country to assist the police into investigating 419ers who fleeced him sometime ago.


NaCSA Launches Multi Million Leones construction project


The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) on Friday 28th May 2010 launched two construction projects at Kongosa Market, Robis Road in Calaba Town and the Low Cost Housing Market, Kissy all in Freetown.  The two projects worth over four hundred million leones and according to reports it is under the social and economic opportunity project of NaCSA, geared towards developing communities and creating self opportunities. 


Masiaka Bo Highway opens


The president of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma last week officially opened the newly constructed Masiaka-Bo Highway.  The official opening ceremony was said to have taken place at Masiaka, Mile 91, Moyamba Junction, Taima and Bo City.  Work commenced on the 168km road since 2004 with Italian company SALINI Construction.  The principal donor to the road project was the European Union.


Attempted murder on mate

32 year-old Salamatu Tarawalie of Nduvnibu Section in Bo is reported to have made an attempt to kill her mate, Aminata Gbala through food poisoning.  According to reports, the suspect gave the unsuspecting woman a bowl of gari after poisoning the food with rat poison.  Aminata is said to have started vomiting the moment she swallowed some handfuls.  Two dogs that reportedly also leaked the contents from the ground immediately died. Aminata is currently responding to treatment whilst Salamatu is in police net.
