Youths rampage in Kono

 

Reports from Kono District have revealed that youths of Gbense Chiefdom in the Kono District on Tuesday 1st June 2010 took the law into their hands and attacked certain colleagues who were guarding the No.11 diamond tailing for persistently denying them access to mine freely in that area .  The reports allege that invading youths used offensive weapons against their victims resulting in serious injuries.  Four suspects are so far reported to have been arrested by police to them in their investigations.


187 carats diamond discovered in Sewa River

 

A US-based mining consortium, Dolat Ventures Inc. has reportedly revealed that its subsidiary group operating in Sierra Leone, Millennium Mining has in total recorded the discovery of 187 carats of diamonds from 300 gem stones from their Sewa River mining sites in Southern Sierra Leone.  The said quantity of stones was reported to have discovered during the first phase of their operations in the country.  The stones are said to have an estimated market value of USD$65,000.


Police son shoots housemate

 

Reports from Magburaka say the son of a certain personnel of the SLP on Tuesday past shot dead one of his house mates at No. 5 Amara Street.  The misguided boy reportedly used the gun assigned to his father who is said to be a senior police officer attached to that division.  The sad incident occurred when the dad was away as the boy toyed with the weapon.  The shot that killed his colleague came unexpected.  The deceaseds remains have since been buried after a post mortem at the Makeni Government Hospital while the perpetrator is currently in police custody. 


Hon. Fallay Declares for SLPP Leadership

 

Opposition SLPP Members of Parliament representing Constituency 07 in the Kailahun District, Hon. Robin Fallay early this week reportedly declared in Parliament to join the Flagbearer race of the party.  At the declaration, he also reportedly announced the 18th of June as time line for the commencement of his official campaign in his home town of Segbwema.  He is reported to have stated that he was the fittest candidate to challenge Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma come 2012 elections.


Lungi gets Traditional Healers Union

 

A group of herbalists in Lungi, Northern Sierra Leone are said to have formed an association, the Indigenous Traditional Healers Union in a ceremony that took place at the Rotifunk Community Centre last Sunday.  Reports say the essence of establishing a Union was to put an end to bad practices among their colleagues in wrongly targeting people contrary to president Koromas Agenda for Change campaign.


2000 Okada Riders trained on traffic rules

 

Over 2000 commercial bike (Okada) riders are presently undergoing a week-long training exercise at the Police Training School in Hastings on traffic rules and regulations.  The training is also reported to focus son their responsibility as commercial bike riders.  The Sierra Leone Roads Transport Authority (SLRTA) are said to have collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police to facilitate the process.


Father impregnates 14 year-old daughter


Reports have it that one Mr. Tejan Yambu, a gold miner aged 41 has impregnated his 14- year-old daughter at Hasting in the Western Rural District.  According to reports, the victim is a JSS III pupil of the Humptidon Secondary School.  The pregnancy became alarmed at 6 months old.  The perpetrator has been reportedly arrested by the police.
