Councilor raises alarm over trash cans theft

APC Councilor Melrose Jane During of Ward 397 in Constituency 107 in western Freetown is reported to have raised concern over the rampant and massive theft of trash cans lids provided by the Freetown City Council at various points in the city.  The theft which she reportedly blamed on scrap metal dealers and scavengers has the tendency to expose residents to contagious diseases.

Ex-President Kabbah to miss part of 2010 World Cup

Erstwhile President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah will reportedly not be in attendance for the entire duration of the 2010 FIFA World Cup which will start next weekend in South Africa.  His unavoidable absence is not unconnected to his role to lead the ECOWAS observer team that will be monitoring presidential and legislative elections in Guinea.

First Lady inspires Film Industry

The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Madam Sia Nyama Koroma is reported to have urged the countrys film makers to improve on their skills.  According to her the country has potential talents whose individual and collective roles could well attract tourism.  If professionally done she said the industry will also curb unemployment.

Govt Losing Le40 Billion on Oil Subsidy

Local tabloids have reported that the ruling APC Government of President Koroma is fast getting notoriety for implementing policies in a zig-zag manner. Reports are that David Carew the Trade Minister rejected the pronouncement of the Finance Minister Samura Kamara and continued to provide Governent subsidies to Oil companies which has now landed the Government with a forty billion leones debt that the Finance Minister is refusing to service. The current Finance Minister used to serve under the direction of Carew when Carew was Finance Minister and so it is believed that Carew thinks he knows more than the current Finance Minister hence leading to the messy situation that the President is reportedly not able to resolve amicably. The Government itself has made no comments on the matter and the allegations are yet to be verified.

NRA Officials Paying Local Tabloid to undermine themselves

Officials of the National Revenue Authority are said to be busy splashing money on local tabloid owners to undermine each other in the public domain. The issue has to do with the poor implementation of the NRAs projects like ASYCUDA+++ which recently forced President Koroma to pay an unannounced visit to the Customs Office in Freetown. The paid-up articles are getting to be nastier everyday.

VPs nephew named in NATCOM Trial

An alleged nephew of the Honourable Vice President has been named in court proceedings concerning the landing of unauthorised phone calls into the country. The VPs alleged nephew named Peter Thompson was supposedly the deputy to one American fraudster by the name of Stephen Thomas who has now jumped bail and fled the shores of Sierra Leone. The criminals were reported to have been engaged in defrauding the State of a huge amount of revenue. One of the accused is however reported to be pleading innocence to the charges in a most vehement manner. His name is Coyanda Parkzes.
