Dodo Paramount Chief cries for help


The Paramount Chief Dodo Chiefdom, Kenema District Alhaji Steven Foday Fabah Kpakra has reportedly called on the APC government of Ernest Bai Koroma and international organizations to help develop his chiefdom said to be one of the most underdeveloped in the country.  Reports allege that Dodo, one of the chiefdoms worst hit by the 11 years of rebel carnage lacks important infrastructures like functional health centres and schools coupled with bad road network system.


Health for All Coalition ends chiefdom tours


Health for All Coalition, a non-governmental organization has reportedly concluded verification exercise in various chiefdoms on the implementation of the free health care service.  Stakeholders such as paramount chiefs and community elders were targeted to ensure the proper monitoring of health clinics for the successful implementation of the project for beneficiaries.  The coalition had set up monitory committees in all the chiefdoms across the country to ease the inspection work on government.


Man Docked for Guma Pipe theft 


Court reports intimate that one Mustapha Dumbuya, a labourer within the Dove Cot market community has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by Magistrate Bankole Shyllon of Freetown Magistrate Court No.3 on Tuesday 1st June, 2010.  According to reports, Mustapha was sentenced after pleading guilty of damaging 6 inches water pipe belonging to the Guma Valley Water Company valued at Le 1,746,000.  He was caught red handed by Guma Valley security on Friday 28th May 2010 at Hill Cut Road on the height of stealing the pipes.


Sister stabs sister to death


A pupil of the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG), Musu Marah recently stabbed her sister, Kadiatu Marah to death at Goderich Village, Western Rural District, reports say. According to reports, the deceased was stabbed on the allegations of having an affairs with latters  boy friend Patrick Kawa. The mother of the suspect, Mrs. Marah was reported to have gone into coma upon receipt of that unfortunate news and was later rushed to the Emergency Hospital at Goderich. The boyfriend on the suspect Kawa has been arrested while the suspect is still on the run.


Zain Reduces International Calls to 10 Units


Zain, the leading mobile telecommunication company in Sierra Leone have reduced  their tariffs to 10 units for international calls. According to reports, subscribers can now make call to Canada, USA, China and landlines to UK for just 10 units. Many people are now calling Zain as a redeemer.


Hillside Road work to start


The Minister of Works, Alimamy Petito Kamara on Thursday told pressmen that the construction of the Hill Side Bye-pass road would commence this month. According to him, government would soon complete paying compensations and issue out conveyances to property owners.  The construction of the road, according to reports is to enhance the smooth movement of vehicles in the capital Freetown. The road will reportedly start from Blackhall Road via Hillside to Pademba Road by PWD.


Importers demand transparency from NRA


The president of the Sierra Leone Importers Association (SLIA), Tanu T Jalloh on Thursday reportedly called on the National Revenue Authority to be transparent in the clearing and forwarding of goods brought into the country by business people.  According to him, the ASYCUDA System was directed at reforming the customs and Excise department with the aim of speeding up clearing of goods through a computerization and simplification of procedures by both the NRA and the importers. He said however, that they are expecting the process to be transparent and very efficient. He also appealed to all customers and traders to respect the system as the system will not condone corruptions.
