Patients blame nurses for untimely deaths


Beneficiaries of the free health care delivery have reportedly blamed nurses detailed at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) for callousness resulting in most deaths of patients.  According to reports three pregnant women last Saturday were neglected by nurses even as they were in pains requiring operations. The reports claim that nurses deliberately refused to call on a doctor to attend to the pregnant women for no good reason.


Accountant General warns schools authorities


Heads of Schools have reportedly been warned by the Accountant Generals department to be submitting their outstanding signed paid-up salary vouchers to the office on time to facilitate salary processes for the following month.  With some school authorities in default of that, salary cheques for the month of May 2010 will not be handed ovwer to them.  According to reports, most schools are yet to submit their signed paid up salary voucher for the months of January to March 2010.


Fire consumes a house, leaves many homeless at Abacha


The top to floor of 15 Sani Abacha Street in Freetown was reportedly razed to the ground by five on the 8th June 2010 leaving scores of people injured and homeless.  Reports say a houseboy named Salieu Conteh got the most severe of burns of his legs to the arms.  The inferno which was not immediately put under control by the National Fire Force claimed properties worth millions of Leones as the floor got gutted.  Conteh is reported to be currently responding to treatment at the Connaught Hospital for second degree burns.


Muslims Observe Imam Khomeinis anniversary

 

Muslims within the Western Area have reportedly commemorated the 21st   anniversary of the death of the founder of the Islamic Revolution and supreme leader, Imam Khomeini at the Iranian Cultural Centre in Freetown past weekend. The Iranian Ambassador to Sierra Leone is reported to have reminded of guests the great personality and inspiration of Imam Khomeini for Iran and the Islamic world as a whole. 


Chief pleads for secondary school in his chiefdom

 

The paramount chief of Gbaneh Kandeh Chiefdom in the Kono District, Paul Lunseni Manga II has reportedly called on stakeholders to construct a junior Secondary School in his chiefdom.  The chief is quoted as saying that the unavailability of a Junior Secondary School in that chiefdom has led to the possible constraints on many children that sit to ths NPSE as they are forced to go distances for school attendance.


Soldiers Intimidate Villagers

 

Reports have alleged that a group of Military Personnel recently entered a village called Tanninahun in Moyamba District, terrorized residents and made trumped up arrests of some villagers.  According to reports the soldiers went into the village on the pretext of arresting one Dauda Kallay for allegedly initiating Kamajors to overthrow the APC government.  When Kallay was not found, several locals, including the town chief Pa Foray were among those arrested whisked off to the Moyamba Police Station for investigations.


KOSA to build perimeter fence


The out gone President of the Kenema Old Students Association (KOSA) Mr. I.S. Kamara is reported to have disclosed that the association is planning to construct a perimeter fence right round the school campus.  According to reports the planned erection of a fence is to protect the school from land grabbers and squatters, including thieves. He is said to have pleaded with all KOSA members to help facilitate this project.
