The United Methodist Church in partnership with Lance and Julie Burma Foundation, Operation Classroom Ministries of Minnesota, and Operation Classroom Sierra Leone have on past Friday 4th June 2010 empowered the inhabitants of Manonkoh Village in Bombali District with a modern health centre.

Officially opening and handing over the Doris Action UMC Community Health Centre to the dire in need people Bishop John M. Yambasu commended those especially Mrs. Doris Acton whose financial and technical assistance he said brought the project to a timely realization.

The health centre Bishop Yambasu emphasized will stimulate President Koromas Free Health Care crusade. The provision Bishop Yambasu maintained will benefit not just Manonkoh Community but the entire world, adding that it symbolizes love for mankind.

In her keynote address the brainchild of the project, Mrs. Doris Acton informed that, health care is a human right issue that spans beyond healing to prevention of diseases by educating people on how to live healthy lives.

She therefore disclosed that apart from administering medication to patients, the Doris Acton UMC Community Health Centre will to a large extent be a knowledge impacting avenue. She assured the community of support at all times.

Mr. Smart Senesie, National Coordinator of Operation Classroom Sierra Leone disclosed that health promotion forms a principal focus of their operations among other pressing issues. According to him the health centre is going to be operated in an environmentally friendly manner. "We will be using solar energy extensively", he asserted.

The UMC Health Focal Person, Sister Beatrice Gbanga recalled that prior to the construction of the health centre administering medical service used to be difficult and urged the beneficiaries to exploit the facility for its intended purpose.

Earlier on the Chairman of ceremony, the Principal of United Methodist School in Makeni, Mr. Alfred Oliver Barzey described the occasion as historical and advised the people to be cooperative. Climaxing the event were sumptuous feasting, singing of traditional songs, and dancing in appreciation of the UMC intervention.
