President Koroma to review education process


President Koroma has reportedly said that he will review the current system of education in Sierra Leone. According to reports, it is part of his commitment to improve quality education to sustain growth and development.  He is said to have planned to soon sit and discuss with the SLTU on a way forward in that regard.


Kumary Foundation boosts education in Bo


A charitable non government organization Kumary Foundation has reportedly provided a huge education package for over 150 pupils in nine primary schools in Bo City last week. The consignment included uniforms, pencils, pens and books.  According to reports the project director of the Foundation, Brother Sahr Doe informed the beneficiaries that the project was geared towards cushioning the plight of the less privileges, especially the physically challenged in those schools.


S/Leonean nabbed in Gambia cocaine saga


Maimuna Sesay, claiming to have dual Nigerian and Sierra Leonean nationality was among two others, Verela Fernando from Cape Verde and Godwin Barset from Ghana nabbed as suspects on the allegation of cocaine trafficking in the Gambia, reports say.  The suspects were recently arrested by officers of the Gambia National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) at the Brufut PIU station in Banjul following a tip off on the 12th May 2010.  The officers reportedly searched the residents of the suspects where they discovered the huge consignments of the contraband drugs.


Makeni cripples get Cause Canada windfall


An international Non-Governmental Organization with a long history of education promotion in Sierra Leone, Cause Canada on the 8th June 2010 reportedly donated to the disabled in Makeni start up kits and many other materials worth millions of leones. The was part of their objective to make the disabled self-reliant for them to contribute to societys development.  The beneficiaries are reported to have received the items with appreciation for Cause Canada.


Koya benefits from SALWACO


Reports say about 35 communities in the Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District are set to benefit from the construction of 10 bore holes for water by the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO).  The construction of the bore holes is currently on going in various communities according to reports.  Community people are reported to have highly commended SALWACO and promised of their fullest cooperation towards the construction of the holes.    


Wealth Builders Celebrate 1st Anniversary

 

One of the leading Micro Finance institutions in the country, Wealth Builders Network on the 11th June 2010 celebrates their 1st Anniversary at the K-Center Auditorium, Calaba Town in Freetown.  Wealth Builders CEO Mr. Peter Ayinla is reported to have noted that their main objective of running such a micro finance institution in Sierra Leone is to help in the reduction of poverty and dependence of people.  He is reported as saying that they have branches across the country, and can now boast of having more than five hundred customers who are investing with them full time.


Soldiers Engage in Community Development


Two serving personnel of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces have decided to contribute to a community development project, reports say.  SLA -18179329, CPI Daniel Tucker, and SLA 18178716 Mohamed Koroma attached to the barracks Maintenance Service Unit at the Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown are currently constructing dilapidated pumps around the Soja Tong and State House areas.  According to reports, the construction of the pumps is a project sponsored by a Lebanese business woman named Sia Basma and implemented by Councilor Madinatu Kamara of Ward 377 with the help of her ward chairlady, Madam Kadie Bangura.
