Hill Side Road project to start soon


Local tabloids have revealed that the Hill Side bye-pass road project is to commence soon.  Construction work will reportedly commence from the Jomo Kenyatta Road Junction in the west to end at Savage Square in the east end of Freetown. This development follows the amicable settlement of controversy between land owners and state with regards compensation and re-location. 


ECOWAS Peace Ambassador boosts Blind School


The ECOWAS Peace Ambassador Joy Obasion is reported to have past Monday donated US$1,000 and food items to the Milton Margai School for the Blind as a peace gesture.  Addressing the blind, she is said to have disclosed that her concern for the disadvantaged children has increased beyond limitation.  She reportedly praised the impaired for their courage in the quest for education.


President Obama to visit Liberia


Local tabloids have intimated that US President Barrack Obama will visit Liberia this year. According to reports, Obama accepted the invitation to visit Liberia from the Liberian President, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf during her recent meeting with Obama at the White House in Washington.


MP Warns Resident Minister


Opposition SLPP Member of Parliament representing Constituency 84 in the Moyamba District, Hon. Edward Amin Suluku has reportedly warned the Resident Minister South, Musa Tarawally not to play politics with the lives of the people in that part of the country.  According to reports, the SLPP MP made this stern warning following a report that the Minister masterminded the recent military/police raid at Taninahun Mboka Village that led to the arrest and detention of many villagers on false allegation that they were engaged in the initiation of defunct local militia, the Kamajors.


World Bank strengthens NPA


Reports say the National Power Authority (NPA) recently received a grant from World Bank to upgrade its networking especially in the Western Area.  According to reports the grant was given for the latter to strengthen its high voltage transmission lines in Freetown and its environs.  Reports say NPA is currently working on so many projects to electrify the entire city.


SLBC connects new transmitter in Pujehun


SLBC on Friday inaugurated a new radio transmitter for the newly established Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation in Pujehun. Reports say the people of Pujehun will now join the whole nation to listen to SLBC.  UN Special Representative of the Secretary General,  Michael Schulenburg is said to have told locals that Sierra Leone was the second country in the world to have an independent public corporation. The Minister of Information also assured the people of Pujehun of governments commitment to freedom of information and expression.


NAS launches strategic plan


The National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) on Monday launched the new Condom Programming National Strategic Plan.  The event is reported to have started with a five- day workshop at Hotel 5.10 at Kissy with many stakeholders.  The aim of the launching is to increase the war against the epidemic in Sierra Leone
