Zain is the pioneer of mobile telecommunications in the Middle East and now a major player on the African continent. Today, Zain is a leading mobile and data services operator with a commercial footprint in 23 Middle Eastern and African countries with a workforce of over 13,000 providing a comprehensive range of mobile voice and data services to over 72.5 million active individual and business customers (December 31, 2009).

Zain in Sierra Leone, formerly Celtel launched its services in Sierra Leone in September 2000 and was part of Celtel International. Headquartered at Zain House, 42 Main Motor Road, Wilberforce, Zain was Sierra Leoneís subsidiary of African multinational telecommunications company. The company indirectly played an active part in assisting both the government and the British Military to communicate in a way that had never been possible in a bid to end the war. To Date, Zain commands the highest network coverage country wide, rendering communication support to development organizations (Local & International) working in very remote communities in driving the country positively towards its development agenda.

Over the years, Zain has made it possible for many Sierra Leoneans to be part of the rapid movements and improvements in a trendy communications world so that we in Sierra Leone donít look any less sophisticated than the average American or European out there in terms of telecommunication needs.

Zain is segmented in a way that it caters for all and sundry and at their levels. Currently, they have the lowest tariff to students with regards to data download and voice. There are also products for middle level and International Executives which increase productivity even when away one is away from office, improves the mobile commerce and the comfort that our award winning One Network brings.  These products and services are detailed thus;

Zain Sierra Leoneís ĎOne Networkí

One Network is the worldís first, borderless mobile service offering over 64 million Zain customers in 21 countries favorable rates, free of high roaming charges for cross-border communications. One Network service revolutionized and replaced the concept of roaming and this facility is one of the most exciting services offered by one of Sierra Leoneís leading mobile communication companies. Unlike other service providers that cover only Sierra Leone, Zainís One Network service allows its subscribers, be they prepaid or postpaid, to make and receive calls and SMS messages at local rates from countries in the Middle East and Africa where Zain operates.

Zain Sierra Leone BlackBerry Solution

Zain Sierra Leone launched its Blackberry Solution for post-paid and prepaid professionals, corporate clients and individuals to let them access mobile services. With the Zain BlackBerry service, customers are able to access a wide range of features including unlimited access to corporate and personal e-mails, high-speed Internet service, organizers for appointments and schedules, and multimedia features.

Zap Mobile Banking

Zain Sierra Leone introduced mobile banking to over 5 million people in the country.  The Zap service represents the most comprehensive mobile banking service and is set to provide millions of people without bank accounts to banking services for the very first time. ZAP is a new mobile money service, providing a fast, safe and affordable way to transfer and receive money using your phone.

ZAP allows you to:

- Pay for goods and services

- Buy Zain airtime for yourself and for others

- Withdraw and deposit money to and from your bank account

- Transfer payment

In a sync of the above products, it is now possible to roam using your Zain SIM on your BlackBerry, laptop modem, and mobile compatible phones and have complete access to data services in countries like the United Kingdom, United States, Dubai, South Africa and several One Network countries.¬† This has in no doubt cemented the Zain brand in the Sierra Leonean market as pacesetters in their value added service proposition to customers, says Commercial Director Ė Keith G Tukei.
