Zain Helping The Sierra Leone Police To Combat Crime in Sierra Leone

Zain Sierra Leone, the fastest-growing mobile telecommunications provider in Sierra Leone, announced that its Toll-Free lines, launched in partnership with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), is helping to combat crime in Sierra Leone and quickly becoming a viable option for people seeking immediate emergency assistance from the police.

Leading law enforcement agencies like The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) are using enhanced communication technology now to obtain the right information at the right time, even before a crime may have been committed, to inform police officers so they can stay on top of and prevent criminal activities, identify crime "hot spots," and ultimately reduce crime rates. This is clearly the case of the SLP being recipients of Toll Free lines donated by Zain Sierra Leone.

In the Western Area, the SLP is responsible for policing a regional population with more than one million residents. Its primary mandate is to prevent and reduce crime by providing comprehensive public safety services when and where they are most needed. Zain Sierra Leone intervened by providing response lines in which members of the public in need could call for free which is said to link performance goals from the executive to the constables on the street.

The lines are stated thus:

The SLP also took advantage of the Toll Free lines to assist with streamlining the police forces reporting and analysis of incidents such as burglary, driving offences, and thefts. These reports do come by as a result of calls made by people in need of the Police at all times of the day.

As a result of employing toll free lines from Zain, the SLP is able to make more resources available to effectively deal with a potential increase in arson activity. It is undoubtedly true that Zain Sierra Leone is still No.1 in terms of coverage and Network capacity and availability, hence the coverage of crime.

Given all the cynicism surrounding services of the security agencies and the insensitivity of the Sierra Leonean society, I believe there still remain many patriots who would damn all consequences and call the police if they were informed of which numbers to use in such emergencies.

Its worth mentioning that Zain is the pioneer of mobile telecommunications in the Middle East and now a major player on the African continent. Today, Zain is a leading mobile and data services operator with a commercial footprint in 23 Middle Eastern and African countries with a workforce of over 13,000 providing a comprehensive range of mobile voice and data services to over 72.5 million active individual and business customers (December 31, 2009).

Zain in Sierra Leone, formerly Celtel, launched its services in Sierra Leone in September 2000 and was part of Celtel International. Over the years, Zain has made it possible for many Sierra Leoneans to be part of the rapid movements and improvements in a trendy communications world so that we dont look any less sophisticated than the average American or European out there.
