Sierra Leonean students enrolled in the Red Cross Nordic United World College based in Norway who are also members of a student organization Save the Future Generation (SAFUGE) have on Monday 5th July 2010 commissioned a newly constructed kitchen with a donation of dozens of cooking utensils worth thousands of dollars to the Freetown Cheshire Home in Freetown.

Donating the items, head of delegation, Alimamy Lahai Kalokoh informed that with student strength of 87 nationalities, SAFUGEs aim is to unite students of the college from various cultural backgrounds and beliefs in a bid to help rescue needy children back home in their respective countries.

Mr. Kalokoh lauded the efforts made by their coordinator, Maria Teresa in sympathizing with the deplorable plight of Sierra Leonean children with a vow to change their lives. "SAFUGE get its funds through voluntary and collective jobs undertaken by the students in Norway and the proceeds are put together and shared amongst students to go home and implement projects for needy children," he informed. He said it was not the first time for SAFUGE to make such donations to the Home as according to him similar gestures were made in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Receiving the items on behalf of the children, Cheshire Home Ag. Administrative Head, Mr. Abu Rahman Foday expressed thanks and appreciation to members of SAFUGE for what he termed a kind and loving heart towards the needy children in the world with special emphasis on those in Sierra Leone. He especially thanked Madam Maria Teresa for her special care for children in this country even when she had never met with them. He expressed hope that she would one day pay a visit to Sierra Leone to meet with children.

On behalf of colleagues, Kadijatu Mansaray thanked SAFUGE for making them feel part of the society notwithstanding their disability status. She expressed hope that such gesture be extended to other needy children in Sierra Leone and for it to be sustainable.
