Police Blame  APC MP for aiding Diamba pushers  


Personnel of the Sierra Leone Police attached to the Songo Police Station in the Western Rural District are reportedly not happy with the Member of Parliament for Constituency 95, Hon. Claude Kamanda for aiding and abetting drug peddlers.  The MP on Tuesday 6th July 2010 allegedly masterminded the forceful retrieval of quantities of marijuana locally known as diamba by leading thugs to the police station to cart away the impounded substances.  He is said to have taken advantage of the low strength of personnel on the ground that day to mobilize thugs to forcefully retake possession of the exhibits.  This left residents bemused as they saw it as very unbecoming of a Member of Parliament to aid and abet crime.  Reports however say that he realized his gross demeanour afterwards and accordingly registered his apology to the police.


Issa Sesay Exposes UN Support to RUF


The former interim leader of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebel Issa Sesay  who is currently serving a jail sentence in Rwanda recently said in his testimony at the Hague that instead of Charles Taylor providing support to RUF, it was the United Nations and other Liberia rebel groups.  According to Issa Sesay RUF rebels were getting more supplied weapons and other assistance from UN, ECOMOG & Liberian rebels rather than the former rebel leader of Liberia Charles Taylor.


Principally arrested for deception and false pretence


Police have reportedly informed that the Principal of the Excel International Secondary School for Girls had been arrested in Freetown.  According to reports Principal Aloysius Brima was arrested on 6th July for falsely collecting school fees from BECE students on the pretence that, they were going to take the BECE exams under the Pedma Academy Secondary School.  Each student was reported to have paid the sum of 380,000 to the school bursar, one Aunty Francess who is also in police net.  It was disclosed that Mr. Brima never registered the six students under Pedma Academy for BECE.

Murder brothers wife over palm kernel


One Ntorma Koroma is alleged to have murdered her sister-in-law, Iye Wuseh at Georum Village, Baoma Chiefdom Bo District. This incidence occurred following a palaver over palm Kernels that was brought by the deceased brother to cook. Reports say, Ntorma is alleged to have stepped into the belly of Iye Wuseh who had just given birth few days ago. The victim reportedly died at the Gerihun Clinic after the devilish act by her sister-in-law.  


Navy Arrests timber at Sea


Reports have it that the Maritime Wing of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) on 4th July arrested 229 leaves of timber on board a boat around the Yelliboya general area.  According to reports, the timber was boarded in a local canoe known as Menica Stat with five crew men and 30 passengers onboard. The boat was reportedly heading for Guinea, from Conakry with the smuggled items.


PPASL Schools MPs on Abortion


Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone (PPASL) on Wednesday ended a one day advocacy workshop for members of Parliament on sexual reproduction, Health and  womens rights at the Atlantic Hall National Stadium in Freetown. According to reports the purpose of the workshop was for the MPs to understand the right to sexual and reproductive health which gives right to everyone to enjoy a mutual satisfaction and safe relationship free from coercion or violence and without fear of infection or pregnancy


YAI Takes Kono Youth to Agriculture


A non-government organization Youth Action International is currently supporting youths who are engaged in the cultivation of two hundred acres of farm land in the Kono District.  Reports say, forty four bushels of rice, a huge amount of Corn seedling, cassava stems, Okra seeds and other agricultural products were donated to the youth by YAI from HOB, an American based organization. The purpose of this project is to divert the attentions of youths from mining to agriculture.


Kailahun District Chair warns farmers


The Kailahun District Council Chairman, Sahr Tom Nyuma has reportedly advised farmers in his district to make good use of their agricultural equipment that was donate to them by the government. According to him would have to bear the penalty for non compliance if they destroy their tools. The chairman is reported to have been one of the most proactive developmental initiator in the local council of Sierra Leone.
