FCC Embarks On More Demolition at Victoria Park


Local tabloids have stated that the management of the Freetown City Council over the weekend embarked on a massive demolition exercise of the remaining market stalls at the Victoria Park in Freetown in preparation of the construction of the second phase of modern market structures at the park.  The demolition exercise has not reportedly gone down well with traders who had refused to quit in spite of persistent warnings. Currently all remaining structures such as mosques, cookeries and tea shops have been raised to the ground in the name of development. 


Cholera breaks out in Port Loko 


Reports filtering in from the northern district of Port Loko say Cholera, the deadly and contagious water borne disease has broken out in Masimera Chiefdom. Communities adversely affected by the outbreak are Rolumpa, Bompeh, Katik Rogberay, Mayele and Lumpa villages. The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has however reportedly put measures in place to arrest the spread. No deaths have been reported since the pandemic broke out two weeks ago.


Kono Locals Protest for Lack of Employment


It has been revealed that a serious stalemate ensued between youths of Sandoh Chiefdom in Kono and a mining company called Uptalah Mining Company over the weekend. According to reports, the angry youths have planned a rampage aimed at disrupting the companys activities if they were not considered for employment as community members.  The standoff reportedly came as a result of the discovery that the companys employing force is not drawn from indigenes of that chiefdom.  A tripartite arrangement is said to be in the pipeline to resolve the impasse.  


Fire Accident Claims one, Leaves 59 Others Homeless


A raging inferno over the weekend reportedly raised many structures to the ground at 15B Off Regent Road, Lumley in Freetown. The fire reportedly took the life of one Salamatu Turay and destroyed properties worth millions of Leones. The crowded environment is said to be host to commercial sex workers one of who unfortunately lost her life. 


Six-month-old, Three Others Drown at a River crossing


A six-month-old child and three adults identified as Amine Conteh, Foday Kabia, and Santigie Kabia past Friday reportedly drowned at a river crossing point within the Katoik village vicinity in the Marampa Chiefdom, Port Loko District. According to reports the poor victims were on the way from farm in a small canoe that capsized. Post mortem has been conducted on each and they have already been handed over to relatives for burial. 


Govt. to Ban Cinemas for unethical displays


Owners of video and cinema centers have been warned to desist from screening pornographic films, more so when most of their clients are teenagers to avoid been shut down by government.  The Ministry of Information and Communications is said to have recently engaged cinema operators in a one day session where they pledged to adhere to the warning. School going children were especially to be restricted from viewing pornographic films by the operators.


Panguma hospital needs help


Reports have it that Panguma Hospital in the Lower Bambara Chiefdom, Kenema District needs urgent support to improve on its facilities. According to reports the hospital is currently facing serious financial constraints to run its daily affairs. The hospital was built by the Catholic and has been providing services for the deprived over the years in that part of the country.  Chiefdom authorities are said to have cried to government to rescue the hospital especially in the areas of maternal and infant cares.
