SLPP member Donates to School


Defeated SLPP Parliamentary candidate for Constituency 98, Wellington in the east end of Freetown who lost to APC candidate in 2007 election, Mohamed Munjuru Jah has reportedly donated the sum of Le 1 million to the Marie Holmes Comprehensive Academy Junior Secondary School, Wellington in Freetown.  According to reports the politician made this donation to mark the Schools annual celebration held at close of last week. At the ceremony, the schools authorities were said to have registered their disappointment by the poor turnout of other dignitaries, notably the APC Parliamentarian and councilors representing that community. Grateful for the donation the school authorities, teachers, Pupils and parents fervently thanked Mr. Jah for helping the School at the right time.


JPC Schools RSLAF on Peace Communication


The Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) of the Catholic Mission in Sierra Leone last Friday reportedly engaged officers, men and women of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces of Murray Town Barracks on a weeks Peace Communication workshop. The essence of the workshop according to reports to import the notion of the maintenance of peace amongst them so that is can filter down to their communities as part of governments Agenda for Change.


Kenema Police in Child Right Abuse


Local tabloids have intimated personnel of the SLP attached to the Kenema Police Division as violating the rights of children in their custody. The reports say that juvenile delinquents arrested by the police are being maltreated, harassed and detained alongside hard core criminals. This is further compounded by the fact that detention facilities at the Polic Station are deportable.


Comium to Boosts Kono


One of GSM providers in the country, COMMIUM mobile company on Saturday July 10th disclosed a series of development project for Koidu city in the Kono District as part of their corporate Social Responsibility. The proposed developmental proje
ct will entail the beautification of the Cotton Tree found at the central of the city including other facilities to give Koidu a face lift. The project which is to commence in September is also expected to provide employment facilities for the city youth. Residents of Kono have commended COMMIUM for such developmental plan.


Notorious Drug addict Nabbed at Lungi


Local tabloids have revealed that one of the most wanted drug-peddler in Lungi, north of Sierra Leone, Alimamy Mansaray aka Feller has been apprehended by Police over the weekend in a police raid. During the said raid seven ghettoes were reportedly razed to the ground and 79 parcels of cannabis sativa and other narcotic drugs impounded. The Rorifunk Community where the raid was effected has reportedly commended the Police for tracking down drug addicts who have been committing criminal offences against them from the ghettoes.


APC ends Womens Policy Workshop


In imitation of opposition SLPP, the All Peoples Congress Womens Wing will today end a three-day workshop for women party members and supporters on the theme working together to Increase Womens Participation in Politics. The workshop was conducted at the Ark Community Center, Robert Street in Freetown attracting over 50 women drawn from all the fourteen political districts in the country. Reports say the workshop was facilitated by the Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC) and sponsored by the United Nations Integrated Peace Building in Sierra Leone (UNIPSL) with the aim of sensitizing women about their 30% quotas in politics and other walks of life.


Petty Traders may lose out on Micro Finance


Petty Traders, tailors, hairdresser and farmers could miss the opportunity to expand their businesses for lack of knowledge to operate micro finances. According to reports, a survey carried out by Microfinance Investment and Technical Assistant Facility among traders within the Aberdeen Road community two months back indicates that thousand of Petty traders are unable to make informed decision on micro credit as to whether it will benefit them.


APC MP Detained at Police Station


APC Member of Parliament for Constituency 93 was reportedly arrested on bench warrant and detained at the Adelaide Street Police Station in the west
end of Freetown past Friday.  The court order was said to have been issued by Magistrate Steven Conteh of Court No.1 authorizing police officers to arrest the MP for failing to make appearance in court. He was reportedly arrested on his way home to Goderich Village and taken to the Police Station where he spent the night. The MP was however released the following day to appear in court where Magistrate Steven Conteh was said to have granted him bail in the sum of 20 million Leones.
