SLPP MP Discusses with Jawei People

 

The SLPP Member of Parliament representing Constituency 06 in Jawie Chiefdom of Kailahun District, Hon Moinima Conteh over the weekend held a meeting with members of his constituency at Kambama Village. According to reports the purpose of the meeting was to evaluate his work as outline in his manifesto and campaign promises made before the 2007 elections. Hon Moinina Conteh reportedly gave an update on development programs and other issues in the pipeline for the benefit of his people.


Mini Shake-up in Foreign Service


Reports have alleged that, the Sierra Leone Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Rupert Davies has been called home and may likely be appointed Director General of Foreign Affairs. According to reports the Head of Chancery at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Washington, Rasie Timbo Kargbo has been appointed Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. The Director General of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Soulay Daramy is to be appointed as Sierra Leone High Commissioner to the Gambia according to reports.


Le 500 Billion spent on printing new money


A local tabloid report has undressed the ruling APCs sealed lips over how much was expended to print the family of new notes. According to reports about 30% of projected national revenue, US$125 million, an equivalent of Le 500 billion was spent to have the new notes printed. No documentary evidence was produced to back up the claims of the local tabloid whilst the Government is continuing to keep sealed lips on the matter despite its much trumpeted shouts of transparency and Open Government initiatives.


Prisoners benefit from Free Health Care


Inmates of the Pademba Road maximum prison in Freetown are reported to have benefited from the Free Health Care delivery. Reports say the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mohamed Daudis Koroma said the reason for extending the provision to prisoners is because their health facilities are deplorable. Free drugs and other medical equipment have already been issued to the prison clinic.

 

Ban on Timber Export still in Force


Media reports have refuted claims that the ban slammed on exportation of timber has been lifted. Reports assert that the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Sam Sesay has said in Freetown that the ban which was imposed six months ago was for three years. Therefore anyone who ventures to smuggle timber within this period would face the law.


Health Workers rope Finance Ministry


An assessment tour of medical facilities countrywide by the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Health reports claim has exposed reasons why the health sector is not performing satisfactory. Local tabloids say the committee has been informed by health workers that the Finance Ministry is underpinning their performances. Although a salary increment has been agreed upon months back, health workers say it has not been reflected in their May and June salaries

 

Philanthropist celebrates Spains victory


Children from the poverty stricken Krootown Road Community in Freetown are said to have benefited from food and other assorted items donated by Balani and Sons Limited past Monday. Reports say Mr. Balani, a popular businessman and philanthropist has been a strong supporter of Spain throughout the just ended FIFA World Cup.
