In Sierra Leone, Madeng Doles 300M to Lumley Beach Residents

A Community Based Organization, Madeng Beach Festival on Sunday 18th July 2010 donated the sum of Le300,000,000 (Three Hundred Million Leones) to residents of the Lumley Beach community. The aim of this donation is to help establish a Culture and Art Education Center within the community.


Handing over the cash to residents, the Chairperson of the charity, Sinkarie Sesay revealed that Madeng is a cultural and art promotional organization operated by Sierra Leoneans at home and in the Diaspora.

 

The aim of forming this organization is to promote and develop the sense of culture and arts in the minds of Sierra Leoneans, and we especially target youngsters, she said.  She lamented over the neglected in recent times of Sierra Leones rich culture and arts by the youth.


She disclosed that Madeng was introduced in Sierra Leone in 2009 with a culturally rich beach festival held at the Lumley Beach. She said at that ceremony they promised to fund the creation of a Culture and Arts Center within the community from the proceedings.

 

In fulfillment of this promise, we are pleased to donate the sum of 300 millions Leones to the Lumley Beach residents she described as wonderful people for tremendously supporting them towards the success of the 2009 beach festival.  She admonished members of the Lumley community establish a primary school for the training of children on culture and arts.


Receiving the cash on behalf of the residents, the Chairlady of the Lumley Beach Community Marian Bangura thanked Madeng for such a kind donation to a cause in their community. She further thanked them for choosing Lumley as the first host community of the 2009 Madeng beach festival. She promised her communitys continued support in subsequent festivals. In the establishment of an Art and Culture Center, the Chairlady vowed that they would use the money to start a culture and arts training center as required.
