Heavy storm Unroofs Lungi Police Station


Repots have stated that the two-storey building housing the Lungi Police Division has lost its roof as a result of heavy down pour of rain accentuated by storm last week.  This has reportedly worried the officers who fear that if immediate repairs are not done, the walls may cave in. They also claim that the station power generator is faulty, further compounding the problem. They are therefore reportedly calling on community members through the local policing partnership board to expedite repairs of the damaged roof.


Son remanded  for Beating his Father


Magistrate Bankole Shyllon of Court No. 3 early this week remanded at the Pademba Road Prison one Alhaji Jalloh standing before him on allegations of assaulting his father.  According to reports, Alhaji Jalloh who is an engineer allegedly beat his Father, Pa Mohamed Jalloh with a belt, puncturing his head in the process.  The reason for the sons outrage was for his fathers refusal to endorse a divorce the son requested for.  The incident took place on 16th July 2010 at 82 Circular Road Freetown following an ensuing argument on the matter.


38 Arrested for Riotous Conduct in Bo


Reports from the Southern City of Bo have intimated the arrest of 38 youths by police for riotous conduct and unlawful gathering. The youth were said to have barricaded the office entrance of that citys power station along Hospital Road in protest against the return of the suspended Chief Executive Officer, Beresford Tiago. The electricity boss was sent on leave for a year, but being reportedly recalled without expiration of the leave period. The youth are suspicious that operatives within the APC government are using Mr. Tiago to disrupt the supply of electricity in that part of the Country, said to be opposition SLPP stronghold.


SLPP Praises Deputy Minister of Health


Reports have alleged that the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mohamed D. Koroma has been praised by certain SLPP members for working in the interest of the country. Reports say despite SLPP being in opposition, many are satisfied with the deputy Minister for his starring role in ensuring the closure of illegal pharmacies and clinics as well as the confiscation and eventual burning of counterfeit drugs from unscrupulous pharmacy operators. Several other stakeholders and citizens are reportedly to have also commended the minister for the successful dispensation of the free Health Care.


Magistrate Detains School kids


Magistrate Bankole Shyllon of Court No.3 in Freetown on Monday ordered the detention of seven school boys at the Pademba Road Maximum Prisons for a week after ceasing their bail. The school children are standing trial on three count charges of riotous conduct, disorderly behaviors and the throwing of missiles. The incident reportedly occurred last Sunday when the pupils allegedly c omitted the crime opposite YSC along Wilkinson Road in the west of Freetown. Application for bail by their defence counsel on grounds that they were school going kids feel to the ground.


Le 46 Billion for Kenema City Council


Reports from the Eastern City of Kenema say President Koroma has confirmed the allocation of Le 46 billion to the Kenema City Council for infrastructural development in the city, especially street tarring. According to reports, 12 streets are slated to be tarred with the money, in addition to the provision of solar energy lights for major streets. President Koroma is said to have also made similar allocations in other cities and district headquarter towns across the country. 


Rapist refused bail


Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Monday denied bail for twenty-three-year old apprentice resident at Pike Street in western Freetown alleged raping a 15-year-old girl. According to the particulars of offence the boy on Wednesday July 7, 2010 raped and indecently assaulted the teenage girl at Tower Hill in Freetown. He pleaded not guilty and was accordingly remanded while the matter was adjourned to 26th instant.
