Following recommendation that were unanimously made by the Committee on Appointments and Public Service, the House of Parliament on Thursday 22 July 2010 approved another 3 presidential nominees who were proposed members to various governmental institutions. The presidential nominees which include: Professor Kabineh Koroma as Chairman, Minerals Advisory Board, Alimamy Rashid Wurie as member of the Minerals Advisory Board and Alie K. Sesay as Board member of the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) were on Wednesday 21st July 2010 scrutinized with questions ranging from their educational backgrounds, track records, tax records and on their past relationships with public enterprises.

Speaking in the well of parliament Hon. Eric Koedoyama of the opposition (SLPP) who also seconded the motion said he believes that the nominees are suitable for their proposed placements in the various institutions after the scrutiny they had gone through the Select House Committee on appointments. He further warned the nominees that inasmuch as they were chosen by his Excellency they should see it as their duty to be giving reports to the Parliament on an Annual Basis as well as to the President so that the house will continue to evaluate their capacities. He added that they should consider themselves as few of the lucky and privileged Sierra Leoneans that have got the opportunity to partake in leadership positions.

The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Honourable Mohamed S. Kargbo of the ruling APC, informed that the nominees were not elected out of political affiliation but for the interests of all.

Opposition SLPPs Honourable Phillip Tondoneh congratulated President Koroma for such a challenging decision making appointments as he opined extreme caution was needed especially for the Minerals Advisory Board which he said should contain only persons of integrity.

In another development, Honourable Elizabeth Lavalie, the Chairperson of Sierra Leones Parliamentary Action Group on Population and Development (SLPAGPD) laid in front of the House Papers containing reports on Populations development strategies as well as on advocacy and communication methods used in Population issues. She also tabled the Goodwill ambassador projects reports of the Fourth international parliamentarians conference on implementation of the ICPD programme of action which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 27-28 October 2009. Also tabled by Hon. Lavalie were her reports from the forum of African and Arab parliamentarians on population and development that was held in Dakar Senegal from 28-29 January 2010.
