In Sierra Leone, Paul Kamara Breaks Silence over Youths Commission

Managing Editor of For di People Newspaper Mr. Paul Mandela Kamara has debunked allegations that he is annoyed with the ruling All People Congress party for denying him the coveted position of Youths Commissioner. Paul Kamara shared his views in an exclusive chat with this writer over the weekend at his 25 Pademba Road offices in Freetown. According to Paul Kamara, he understands that he was summarily disqualified for the position principally because of his relative age as well as untested allegations that he lacks experience on contemporary youths issues.

Kamara said he actually never lobbied for the position even though it had been widely speculated that he was the most suited for it.

I have no misgivings against APC for denying me the Youths Commissionership on technical grounds. Afterwards I never lobbied or opted for it, Kamara said, adding that as of now, he prefers to remain to be a society informer, educator and entertainer.

The Managing Editors clarification came in wake of fierce infighting for the position following the World Bank issuance of US$20Million towards addressing youths issues in Sierra Leone. According to Mr. Kamara, notwithstanding being blacklisted for the position, he is closely monitoring the utilization of the whopping US$20M windfall. He urged youths to be mindful as to whom they should throw their support behind to become the coveted Youths Commissioner.

The human rights journalist made a clarion call on youths to desist from tribalism and partisan politics when choosing whom they will support for the position. In his opinion, if the right person is appointed then one of Sierra Leones grave problems would be addressed.

Dilating further, Paul Kamara commended the World Bank especially its president Mr. Robert Zoellick for honoring a promise he made past January whilst in Sierra Leone during his Africa Tour. He concluded by proffering that if the US$ 20 Million is prudently expended towards its intended purpose, tomorrow leaders would be appreciably equipped to face contending future challenges.

Meanwhile the Awareness Times is reliable informed that youths nationwide are divided on political and tribal lines over who should lead the National Youths Commission whilst there is another division between those supporting locally based citizens and those wanting a particular person currently living in the Diaspora.
