Telecommunications has been described as the infrastructure of infrastructures and the life wire of an emerging economy. It is for this reason that continued efforts are being made by the Zain Management to increase the reach of telecommunications services (both voice & data) to Sierra Leoneans throughout the national territory.
In line with the Companyís vision to spread affordable telecommunications to the most remote areas of Sierra Leone and consolidate gains made in other areas, Zain Sierra Leone, the sole Ďintegratedí telecom operator in Sierra Leone and sole provider of BlackBerry, Zap and One Network services, announced further tariff reduction on voice calls and data.
This move reflects the Companyís pioneering role in the latest innovations in technology in the local market, as well as its commitment to increase the GSM penetration in Sierra Leone. The ĎFambul Tariffí is one that has amazed most Sierra Leoneans of late. The most intriguing aspect of the tariff is that Ďit is here to stayí and it is a direct response to the wishes of numerous subscribers. Itís a One Tariff on the Zain platform and the name ĎFambulí depicts the unity which the lowest cost tariff could bring in the daily call habit of the subscriber.
Accordingly the new tariffs vary from one time period to another but the reduction offer averages 40%. All calls made on the network are now billed per second. Now on the Zain Network, you can call for as low as Ď0í unit per minute and as high as 9 units per minute. A further 32% discount in tariff was made to off-net calls (Zain to other Networks). Calls can now be made to other networks for just 19 units per minute throughout the 24 hours instead of the previous 28 units.
ďSince the day the company was established in Sierra Leone, they have striven to make telecommunications a necessity in terms of increasing GSM penetration among Sierra Leoneans, and to put Sierra Leone ahead of the other regional countries in the Communications and IT field,Ē said Head of Corporate Affairs & Communications - Mr. Kelvin Kellie.
ďBesides, our ceaseless dedication to offer competitive prices for data services will not only be in favor of internet users, but also has made internet services more popular in Sierra LeoneĒ he added
