A Community Based Organization (CBO), United Dantari Organization (UDO) on Sunday 8th August 2010 dished out forty scholarships to 40 students drawn from various secondary, primary and tertiary institutions in Freetown at the Ansarul Islamic College, Kissy Dockyard.

In his award statement, a member of the organization Alusine Bahr said since the formation of the organization one of their key targets has been to boost education and give access to the less fortunate Sierra Leoneans to improve on their educational career. He said as the criteria demanded, for anyone to benefit from the scholarship awards must either be an orphan or coming from a very poor home and with little chance for child education.  He called on the beneficiaries and their parents/guardians to ensure that the scholarships be made good use of.

Mohamed Borbo President for UDO

T
he Principal Ansarul Islamic College Dr. Ibrahim Jalloh spoke on the need for girl child education and its significance in Islam as he said Islam viewed and held women to high esteem. He said Islam disapproves of segregation against women in education at all levels. He said it was out of mere ignorance that some Muslims failed to educate their girl children. The Principal cited that the Holy Prophet of Islam once said that anyone who bores a girl child, educates her and grows her up with the attributes and conducts of Islam, will be blessed in folds. He therefore, called on all Muslims to send their girl children to school.

Earlier in his speech, the Education Committee Chairman of UDO Osman Bah said UDO is a community based organization set up by young Sierra Leoneans. He said their aim is to improve the lives of the less fortunate and needy in the country through the disbursement of scholarships.
