Chief dies in Forest


The Chief of Golawahun Town in Galliness Perri Chiefdom in Pujehun District has reportedly been discovered dead in a thick forest. Police sources say he had left his house for his plantation that fateful day where it is claimed devils drifted him right across to Potoru in the Barri Chiefdom and missed his path back home. It is alleged that heavy down pour of rain caused him to e overcame by cold which led to his unfortunate death.


Youth Nabs Notorious Thief 


Youths of Canteen Street in the east end of Freetown over the weekend nabbed one Sahr Mamie known to be a notorious thief at Savage Square. He was caught with building materials said to worth million of Leones which he alleged were stolen from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay with the help of a security guard attached to the Quay. Police report says that the suspect has been released because of lack of evidence to charge the matter to court.


WIA Soldiers Threaten to Cause Problem


Members of the second batch of the Wounded-In-Action ex-soldiers have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the payment of their pensions, and are now said to have threatened to go on the rampage if government fails to address their issues. The chairman for the WIAs, retired blind Corporal Farma Jalloh  is reported to have expressed disaffection for the disproportionate way government is paying pensions to them per month.


Sports Reporters on Development Drive


The Sierra Leone Sports Reporters Union newspapers reports say have planned to boost the capacity and professionalism of its membership. The union is currently in consultation with the Australian Sports Union on how to partners for training programmes for timely, objective and effective presentation of sport stories.


Liberia Emulates Sierra Leone on Finance Control

 

Following the establishment of a professional technical cooperation between Liberia and Sierra Leone at a caucus meeting in Freetown last year, repots say a 17-man delegation of Liberias Financial Management experts have arrived in town for a 12-day study tour. The tour is said to assist post-war Liberia to emulate Sierra Leone on finance control systems.


British High Commissioner Promises to Promote SLIEPA


The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Ian Hughes has reportedly expressed his commitment and determination to promote Sierra Leones Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA).  He reportedly made the promise at a dialogue meeting last week with stakeholders. H.E Ian Hugs is said to have commended SLIEPA for initiating the dialogue, and assured of convincing British companies to see to investing in Sierra Leone. The CEO of (SLIEPA) Mr. Patrick Collier reportedly proffered that Sierra Leone has an investment friendly environment to woo foreign investors.


Iranian Consulate Conducts Quranic Competition


The Cultural Consul of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammed Ghezel Sofla in collaboration with staff of the embassy early will be reportedly organizing a Quranic competition and exhibition on artistic works and painting to mark Ramandan celebrations month. The competition which will kick start on 28th August this year will reportedly attract prices for best performers in cash and other valuable gifts.


APC Government Spends US$ 31,600 on Solomon Berewa


Political commentators allege that ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) led government has spent US$ 31,640 (Thirty One Thousand Six Hundred and Forty Dollars) on erstwhile Vice President Solomon Ekumah Berewa to undergo medical treatment abroad. This move by government is in consonance with the provisions of the national constitution as the amount in question was from the Consolidated Fund.
