Internal Affairs Ministry Calls for Fire Safety Legislation

 

The Deputy Minister II of Internal Affairs, local Government and Rural Development, Raymond Kabia is reported to have established the need for Sierra Leone to enact fire safety laws. This in the ministers view will not only empower the National Fire Force to discharge its functions more efficiently and effectively, but will also develop a sense of safety within the society.

 

National Stadium Batted by FCC


The mayor of Freetown City Council, His Worship Herbert George-Williams according to news on Tuesday 10th August 2010 ordered the National Stadium closed for failing to pay city rates. Debt owned by management of the stadium reportedly stands at about Le300 million which has resulted to the closing down of most of its main gates

 

5 Chiefdoms Rebel Against Local Tax Payment

 

Five chiefdoms, Safroko ,Masimra, Koya, Lokomasama and another all in the Port Loko District according to comments have refused to pay their local taxes resulting to stalling of revenue needed to undertake developmental projects in that part of the country. The cause of the inhabitants persistent refusal observers say could not be unconnected   to governments failure to resolve chieftaincy related disputes.

 

Recalled Zenith Bank MD Replaced


Following the withdrawal of the former Zenith Bank MD Oby Ikeh Unekwe who came under sharp condemnation in this country for unbecoming behavior, the Nigerian home management has made a replacement in the person of Mr. George Meza, also a Nigerian.  Mr. Meze is said to be a seasoned banker with decades of experience. It is expected that unlike his predecessor he will bridge the gap between the bank, journalists and the people of Sierra Leone.

 

New Harvest Ministries Rescues Bo Youths


Youths in the Southern city of Bo are reported to have been rescued by the General Overseer of New Harvest Ministries Rev. S.B.E. B Johnson. The Man of God is said to have promised each of the 13 district youth groups Le 2million per year, monthly allowance for each Districts President and a vehicle to the National Youth office of the Ministry of Youths and Sports.

 

Friends of the Dead Embark on Cleaning Cemeteries


Friends of the Dead, a youth organization says it has embarked on cleaning grave yards in order to give respect to the dead. The group was formed during warring years. Its activities according to reports would institute safety and security because cemeteries are dens for criminals and dangerous creatures.

 

Sierra Leonean Turns Texas Deputy Mayor


A Sierra Leonean resident in Texas USA, Patrick Jackson has been selected to serve as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem in Texas City, reports say. According to reports, he was serving in the capacity of a councilor of Rowlett Ward before his new appointment.  Apart from being a community activist Deputy Mayor Patrick Jackson has been described as an experienced business man and philanthropist.

 

Athletes Depart for Olympic Games


Sports commentators say three young nationals, Jimmy Thoronka, Nenneh Kadie Barrie and Khadija Conteh have left Sierra Leone to represent her in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in Asia. Each will be competing in a single event with Thoranka and Conteh competing in the 400 meters sprint, while Barrie will go in for 200 meters.

 

Births/Deaths Cries for Modern Uplift


The Births & Deaths Department is stated to be in dire need of technological upliftas they lack modern mean of keeping records. They have reportedly cried for government intervention for the provision of computers to maintain a computerized system of record keeping. The building is also reported to be facing resinous water supply problem with the staff having no means of transportation. This report says poses danger to the smooth running of this important institution housing vital records for referencing
