Mother Sets  sons hands on Fire


Newspaper reports have disclosed that the hands of a -four -year old boy, Abu Bakarr Sankoh were set ablaze by his biological mother Aminata Kamara at Romankoro Village in Kholifa Rowalla Chiefdom on 2nd August this year. Reports say the mother inflicted this cruelty on the innocent boy simply because he allegedly ate a plate of rice belonging to a next door neighbor. The mother reports say has been arrested to help the police in their investigation.


FWMC Employees Storm Labor Office for Salaries


It has been reported that some employees of the Freetown Waste Management Company recently stormed the Labor Union Office in Freetown in protest over delay in the payment of their backlog salaries. Reports say the Freetown City Council which is the principal financier of FWMC exercise is in accumulated deficit of Le 6 billion. They are however alleged to meet with President Koroma on a way forward to offset the arrears.


Journalist Wins Mabaath Competition


Local tabloid reports say John Momoh a veteran journalist working with the New Vision Newspaper is among three lucky winners of the Mabaath Essay Competition recently organized by the Cultural Consul of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohamed Ghezel Sofla at their Gaqrrison Street office.  According to reports, John Momoh who tailed the first winner Mohamed Sidie clinched Le200, 000, including a Quran and other Islamic literature.


JSCO To Capacitate Chiefdom Police


In a bid to enhance the capacity of chiefdom police personnel, the Justice Sector Coordination Office (JSCO), with support from DFID is reported to pump about 7 million towards capacity building. This whooping sum according to reports will ensure proper training, payment of salaries and other remunerations of chiefdom police in all the one hundred and forty nine chiefdoms countrywide.


NRA Closes 5 Businesses for GST


Business commentators have advanced that the National Revenue Authority on Wednesday 11th August 2010 closed down five business houses in Freetown for failing to honor their Goods and Services Tax (GST) obligations. The affected businesses reports claims contravened Sections 58 and 63 of the GST Act 2009 which is failing to file in monthly GST returns. The affected businesses will reportedly remain closed until they meet NRA obligations.


Female U20 Hand Ball Team Departs for Mali

 

The National Female U 20 Handball Team departed for Mali to take part in the Zone Two Female Handball Tournament slated for Wednesday 11th August 2010.  The team is expected to lock horns with Guinean. The Vice President of the Sierra Leone Handball Association, Rtd, Major Alusine Osaow Kamara is reported as saying that though this is their first encounter, hopes are high to bring laurels in the country.


Fake Vehicle Licenses Become Worrisome

 

Over 380 vehicles have been suspected to be carrying fake licenses, reports local tabloids. The fake transaction reports say started soon after the Transport and Aviation Ministry decided to change the system where payments for the issuance of licenses should now be made through the banks.  It has now reportedly emerged that certain people present false pay-in-slips to management complemented by fake stamps and signature. Three of the 380 suspects are said to be on the run since the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA) and police mounted investigation this week.
