Ten Win Comium Cash for Life Promotion


Ten subscribers of one of Sierra Leones leading telecommunication company, Comium on Saturday last week reportedly won le500, 000 each as consolation prize in the Cash For Life promotional draw. To be part of the draw, subscribers are required to only recharge with 300 units. 


Police Impound 950 Commercial Motor Bikes


Head of the Western Area Traffic Management of the Sierra Leone Police, Inspector Flavius Saidu Sesay has reportedly disclosed that over 950 commercial motor bikes commonly referred to as Okadas have been impounded by the police for various traffic related offences withy several of the riders placed in police custody  awaiting court  appearance. The crackdown is alleged to have come about following the failure of the riders to take police orders.  The chairman for Okada riders is also said to be in custody for failing to put his men under control after being cautioned by Police on several occasions.


Big Mama Arrested at Sea


Local tabloids have intimated the arrest of a boat by the name of Big Mama loaded with smuggled items heading for Conakry, Guinea. The arrest was reportedly effected by a joint patrol team of Africa Maritime Law Enforcement Program (AMLEP) and the Sierra Leone Navy in Sierra Leones territorial waters.  According to reports, the boat with a crew of eight was heading from Gbangbatoke in the Bonthe District, South of the country loaded with 300 bags of gari, 2 drums of  petrol , 5 containers of Palm Oil and 18 bags of salted fish without authority to leave Sierra Leone.


Airport Tax Increases


It has been reported that the Sierra Leone Airport Authority has increased airport tax rates from US$ 40 to US$65 for air travelers. According to reports, the increase in airport tax was necessitated by the astronomical increase in the overhead cost of running the airport, coupled with increase in security charges, a standard universal practice.


APC, SLPP Battle for Kono


Reports from Kono District predict a serious battle between opposition SLPP and ruling APC in the forthcoming local council bye-election for District Chairmanship, following the appointment of the former Chairman, Councillor Sahr Yambasn as ambassador to Russia. Reports say the district executives of the two political parties have started holding consultative meetings ahead of declarations and subsequent campaign. NEC is yet to state date for the conduct of the bye-elections.


President Koroma to Conduct On-the-Spot Checks


In a bid to ensure effective service delivery on the part of government officials, the president is reported to embark on impromptu visits to government ministries, departments and agencies in Freetown. During this exercise government officials are reportedly expected to give account of their activities over the period.


Berewa is Alive and Responsive

 

The National Executive of the SLPP has debunked claims made in a certain local tabloid that the former vice president in the Tejan Kabbah led government, Hon. Solomon Berewa was dead. According to a press release from party secretariat issued on Friday last week, the executive and the entire membership of the SLPP viewed the publication as misleading and malicious, intended to cause unnecessary tension. The press release states that contrary to the news report, Solomon Berewa was alive and positively responding to treatment in India.


Africell Unveils Ramadan Promo 


Reports say Africell has unveiled a new promotion for the month of Ramadan as a means to join Muslim
s across the country to observe the holy month. The fantastic promotion called Find the Hidden Treasure is a said to be a special gift in bid to reward their valued and loyal subscribers. The promotion reportedly started on last Wednesday at the SLBC Television in Freetown and will last for the whole of the Ramadan month. Management is reported as saying that for their subscribers to be part of the draw, they only need to send a blank SMS to 777.
