St. Edwards Pupil Rapes Juvenile


Local tabloids have alleged that a pupil  of St. Edwards  Secondary School  Kingtom  John Mohamed Gbario, on Tuesday appeared before Magistrate Bankolle Shyllon of court No.3 for allegedly  raping  a-12- year old girl .The accused according to reports was charged on one count charge of rape contrary to Section 6 of the Prevention of Childs Act  of 1816. According to the statement of offence, it was alleged that the accused on the 8th July this year at Patton Street, raped a-12- year old girl with the pretext of buying her a mobile phone. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded at the Pademba Road Prisons in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to August 23 2010


Bo City Gets Funeral Home Soon


Reports from the Southern City of Bo say residents will soon get an ultra modern funeral home in that part of the country. The chairperson of the health committee of Bo city says the construction of the building has almost been completed. The Council has bided for the supply of the requisite medical equipment and qualified and experienced personnel to run the home. Columbia Davies and Virtues Funeral reports say are the highest bidders.


Statistics SL Conducts Public sensitization


Newspaper reports say Statistics Sierra Leone recently ended a one day public sensitization on the up coming Multiple Cluster Survey (Mics4), at the Makeni City Hall, Makeni. According to reports Statistics SL will be sending 120 enumerators across the country to administer questionnaires on household and women and children. The purpose of the survey reports say is for development planning and also to provide useful information for concrete actions to be taken by government and other development partners.


Osman Boie Donates to SLPP    
  


Local tabloids say one of the leading contenders of the SLPP Alhaji Boie Kamara has donated food items, non-food items and cash to members of his party at the Secretariat who are observing the month of Ramanda. According to reports, the donation was made by Alhaji Koroma and Princess R. Conteh on behalf of Alhaji Boie Kamara. Reports further states that party members who were present during the donation expressed thanks and appreciation for the donation. 


FAO Campaigns Against Hunger

 

Newspaper reports have it that the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has conducted an intensive campaign to reduce hunger by 2015. The campaign title IM MAD  AS HELL  aimed at collecting a million signatures for a petition that will be presented to world leaders through the UN to reduce hunger as a goal of the millennium development. Sierra Leone reports went on is expected to append ten thousand signatures.


African Minerals pays Le 89M to Lokomasama Farmers


One of the leading mining companies in Sierra Leone African Minerals Limited (AML) has reportedly paid over Le.89 million to farmers of Lokomasama. Reports say the money was paid as a consolation for the use of their farm land to construct railway track which connects Pepel to Lunsar and Tonkolili. According to reports, this is the first set of payment and other chiefdoms will soon receive their own payment for the use of their farm lands


Police Officer Arrested for Aiding Thieves


Police Sergeant 648 Turay U attached to the Mange Bureh Check Point has reportedly been arrested for allegedly aiding a vehicle loaded with eight bales of free mosquito bed nets to pass through the check point unchecked. According to reports, the vehicle carrying the bed nets arrived at the check point on 8 August at about 12am. The police sergeant reportedly attempted to prevent his colleagues from checking the vehicle but could not succeed. Reports say the officers having noticed some dubious game playing chased the vehicle and arrested the alleged owner of the net one Isata Kamara , Sergeant Turay and the driver. Two health workers of the Port Loko Government Hospital and the security guard have also been arrested and brought to Freetown reports say. Matter is under intensive investigation.


Police Destroys Drug Cartel


Police attached to the Central Police Station in Freetown have reportedly destroyed a drug cartel at Government Wharf in the central part of Freetown. Reports claimed that the cartel houses drug addicts and thieves who usually disturb the peace of innocent citizens especially at night. Eight people have been arrested including one Umu Bangura who was in possession of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa reports added.
