Speculations on  the  appointment of the National Youth Commissioner was on Thursday 19th August 2010 laid to rest after the House of Parliament approved the nomination of Mr. Umar Faruk Sesay as National Youth Commissioner. Rev. Michael Samura was also approved as member of the commission after being vetted by the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Appointments and the Public Service.

On the same day, Parliament also approved the nomination of the former Kono District Council Chairman, John Sahr Yambasu as Sierra Leones Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Russia. He will replace Dr. Turay.

SLPPs Honorable Komba Kodeoyorma who seconded the motion for the appointment of Mr. John Sahr Yambasu described the APC Kono kingpin as a man with potentials capable for the Ambassadorial appointment.  On a general note, he admonished all the newly approved appointees to make good use of the privilege given to them by government to serve the people of Sierra Leone as much was expected of them.  To the newly approved Ambassador to Russia, Hon. Kodeoyorma entreated on him to bridge the between the two countries and help facilitate Scholarship programmes for Sierra Leonean youths.

The Honorable Speaker of the House, Abel Strong congratulated the appointees and advised them to be mindful of their work, whilst warning them against working for their personal gains.

In another development the Minister of Mineral Resources and Political Affairs, Honorable Alpha Khanu on Thursday 19th instant, presented to Parliament, the Mining Lease Agreement   between the Government of Sierra Leone and African Minerals signed on 6th August 2010. The Agreement will come into force if ratified by Parliament. However, there are some doubts being raised by some Parliamentarians, who spoke in confidence to this newspaper, that the African Minerals Lease Agreement contravenes the Mines Act of 2009 and so it should be rejected by the elected representatives of the people. Most of the MPs however expressed a need for laxity in order to encourage investors.
