Mercury Boosts  Ballanta Academy


Local tabloids say,Mercury International over the weekend presented a -Le20 million Cheque to Ballanta Academy of Music in Freetown. The donation was made as a support to the  activities of the Ballanta  Academy  of Music. The Lebanese Chairman who also doubles as CEO of Mercury International disclosed that they were proud for the donation.


Berewa Arrived last Week


Reports say, the former Vice President of Sierra leone Mr. Solomon Berewa returned home last week after recovering from his illness. It could be recalled that Mr Berewa was flown out of Sierra Leone for medical treatment to India. Reports say that despite bad rumours by his detractors that the former Vice President has died, he is alive and healthy.


Kono Police Cry for Medical Facilities


Reports from Kono District say police in that part of the country could not access better medical facilities. According to police sources in Kono, there is no police hospital in the area where the police can seek medical treatment. Reports further alleged that individual personnel who fall sick take care of their medical expenses. Personnel reports say are calling on the Inspector General of Police to provide better health facilities for them.    A similar situation is experienced by personnel in other districts.


Blackout Hits Freetown


Local tabloids have it that some areas in Freetown are now experiencing Continuous blackout. This reports say is due to the stealing of electric cables by thieves especially in the Wellington Area. The thieves are alleged to  have  cated  away with cables worth  five million Leones. Reports further alleged that other places with constant electric cables are also facing blackout.


Door to Door Free Health Implemented in Kabala


With support from UNICF, the ABC Development, the Consortium of partners, IRC and Care in collaboration with the District Health Medical Team have implemented the Door to Door accessible Free Health Care for Children between ages of 2-59 months. The Project was implemented in order to reduce the death rate amongst Children. District authorities and other stakeholders also give their supports and commended the implementing partners.


Congo Town Teenage Witch Confesses

 

One lady in Congo Town in Freetown last Wednesday reportedly confessed of being a witch, after she was accused  by a triplet  Mother. Reports alleged that the lady had confessed of bewitching a 4-month old baby at Benguema in the Western Rural District. According to reports, she said she had been mysteriously sucking the blood of the said baby causing the baby to fall sick. The alleged witch reportedly told the press that she inherited the skills of witchcraft from her grandmother. She further reportedly disclosed that whenever she want to go and witch she will turn to a bat and when returning she will change to a snake. She finally assured the mother of the baby of her good health.

SLIEPA Holds Regional Market Survey Validation


Sierra Leone Import and Export Promotion Agency over the weekend held a two days validation workshop on regional markets survey to identify possible distribution mechanisms and routes for export. According to reports the regional survey was recently held to access the regional market for rice, gari, palm oil, palm Kernel oil and cashew and their feasibility to enter identified markets for proper valued chain. The survey further revealed that the yield of rice and cassava exported is too low and Sierra Leone has been a deficit producer over the past one year.


COMAHS Student Testifies in Court


A second year student of the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), Mohamed Mustapha had reportedly  testified  at  the Magistrate Court NO.1 of how he was robbed at the Texaco Lorry Park in the east of Freetown. Mustapha said after arriving from Conakry on August 10 this year he was robbed of his Nokia 1200 Mobile Phone by the accused Alimamy Sesay  He went on to tell the court that the accused ran out of luck as he was arrested and taken to the Kissy Police Station. The matter was adjourned to a latter date.
