A woman Remanded in Prison for stealing phone


Magistrate Henry Sandi of the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Friday remanded in prison one Mariatu Sesay for allegedly conspiring with others to steal a mobile phone.  According to the particulars of offence the accused recently conspired with others to steal a Sonny Ericson mobile phone valued at Nine Hundred Thousand Leones, property of one Ibrahim Bundu. Matter was reportedly adjourned on 26th August this year. 


130 Sojas Depart for Darfur


It has been reportedly disclosed that, the second batch of one hundred and thirty soldiers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) on Sunday left Sierra Leone to join the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur Sudan. The officers are going to replace the first batch that has reportedly returned on Monday 23rd August 2010 following a successful completion of their duty.. According to reports, one Lieutenant Colonel Alhassan Bangura  is going to command the second batch .


Flood Disaster Hits Sierra Leone Liberia Boarder


Reports from the Sierra Leone Liberia boarder in the Pujehun District say at least 10 houses have been destroyed by a deluge of flood water from the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and Moa River. Some residents at Gendema  in Sierra Leone and  Bo Waterside  in Liberia have been consequently rendered homeless losing property worth millions of Leones. The victims are in dire need of help reports say.


Heavy Rains Destroy Bradford Moyamba Road


Local tabloids say, a heavy down pour of rain has seriously destroyed and cut off the main route between Freetown and Moyamba Highway. Reports say, the bridge at Rotifunk was nearly swept away by the rain over the weekend and vehicles that regularly ply the road with passengers were cut off. Authorities in the district say the only solution to this problem is for government to tar the road because all rehabilitation work done by SLRA has proven futile.


  Heavy  Wind  Destroys  Fishing Vessels At Goderich


Heavy wind has   recently caused damage to fishing vessels that were anchored at the Goderich wharf. According to reports, this disaster has cost a huge loss to boat owners as most of them highly depend on their fishing activities. Reports further say that a good number of the boat owners are creditors of micro credit institution. The councilor of that area, Ibrahim Kabaa  is appealing to development organizations and other kind hearted  Sierra Leoneans to come and rescue his subjects.


Dan Street Residents Cry for Water Supply


Residents of the Dan street area in including the Lorry Park are seriously facing acute water problems. Reports alleged that drivers, passengers, traders, park attendants and residents in that environs have raised serious concerns over the lack of water supply in their community. The park authorities are now calling on the Freetown City Council and the Ministry for Transport and Aviation to come to their aid as over 5000 people visit the lorry park everyday. The youths as a show of commitment in their community embark on a toilet cleaning exercise every Saturday.


China to Award Scholarship to 23 Sierra Leoneans

 

Reports have alleged that China will be awarding scholarship to 23 Sierra Leonean students. According to reports, the Chinese Embassy in Freetown will be holding a ceremony on the award this Friday coming. The scholarship will range from Bachelor Degree to Doctorate Degree.
