Report reaching this press reveals that police officers have on 22nd August 2010 arrested an Indian national who has been identified as Bilal Ahmed (aka Aklish) for attempting to buy and smuggle stolen rails out of the country; the rails belong to African Minerals Limited AML.

Speaking to this reporter the Resident Director of African Mineral based in Pepel Mr. Mohamed Sesay noted that he got the intelligence from one of his colleagues who informed him that people are loading remains of rails in a Maerskline container with registration number MSK U 380422 (4) 22G1 (1/C) 87 at PMB in kissy. Mr. Sesay said upon receipt of the intelligence he immediately drove to PMB searching for the said container vehicle which was later discovered at Kanikay weighing the consignment at the Weigh Bridge in Kanikay for it to be shipped out of the country.

I raised an alarm but the thieves ran away with the driver leaving the vehicle behind" he said. Mr. Sesay however revealed that he had to call officers and other workers at AML to intervene. When contacted the President of Scrap Metal Association Mr. Omotayoh O.V McCarthy informed this press that they have done all they could to discourage people from stealing cables, rails and other valuable items to sell as scrap metals. He pointed out that there are some local metal dealers who are still involved in shady deals with foreigners and they are doing all they could to arrest them. According to the suspected Indian dealer Mr. Bilal Ahmed (aka Aklish) he confessed that he was contacted by two guys, Shacko and Abdul who informed him that they have scrapped spare parts for caterpillar machines to sell and they persuaded him to buy the goods as they agreed on Le 900,000 per ton,

"I did not see the goods myself as I was told not to go where the goods were loaded as the dealers will inflate the price if they see me. Shacko and Abdul did everything but I was supposed to inspect and weigh the goods before paying the money, but unfortunately they were arrested before I even saw them" he claimed.

In his statement, one of the community elders, Samuel Julius Williams of 33 Wharf Road Kanikay noted that they are not happy about the way and manner in which their colleagues are involved in criminal deals with foreigners. He appealed to the police to deal with the matter seriously. The Matter has since been handed over to the CID for further investigations.
