Military Impersonator Arrested in Kenema


Police have reportedly confirmed the arrest of one Alie Kargbo for impersonating as military personnel as he was found in combat attire while smoking cannabis sativa at the Koala Check Point in the Kenema District.  It has been revealed by police that suspect was once a military man but was dismissed on 13th September 2009 for unlawful possession of cannabis sativa reports say.  Investigation still continues.


Government in search of missing Guineans


Reports say a combined team of the Navy Wing of the RSLAF, the Office of National Security and the Artisanal Fishermen Union are currently in search of 8 Guineans who were said to have departed with a boat from Conakry in Guinean for Freetown from the 12th August this year.  The missing crew is reported to have embarked on a business trip to this country. Efforts to locate the boat caring Kabbi Code, Yasanneh Abdulai, Lt. Abubakarr Conte, Ibrahim Soriba,Foday Sillah, Abubakarr Sillah and two others continue to remain daunting.


 4 Sent to Prison for Conspiracy


Four accused, Umaru  Bangura Abdul Aloha Ibrahim Mattia and Ramatu Kamara were  last Thursday sent to prison on remand by Magistrate Steven Conteh of the Freetown Magistrate Court No 1 on charges conspiracy, store breaking and receiving stolen goods contrary to law.  According to reports, the accused on August 17 this year conspired with other unknown persons to steal 74 bags of rice, one 24 inches Panasonic television and other items valued at Le 2,381,000 belonging to one Madam Memunatu Bangura in the east end of Freetown.


Womens Group against Alcoholism


White Ribbon Vocational Institute in collaboration with the Christian Women Temperance Union have reportedly embarked on a sensitization efforts of hundreds of women on the hazards of alcohol consumption.  The target group is especially pregnant women who were said to have received strictly warning to abstain from drinking alcohol which may have bad effects on their unborn babies.  All participants were advised to be very careful on the use of alcohol. The ceremony took place at Adesanya Street, Brookfields in Freetown.


Youths Attempt at Arson at Krootown


Reports have alleged that some unknown boys last Wednesday set on fire the Krootown Road Market in western Freetown. This reportedly caused a pandemonium that resulted in the sustenance of injuries of several traders and customers, mostly women as they battled to put off the fire. Police are said to be investigating the matter.


Concern Worldwide Supports African Traditional Day


The focal person for traditional medicine at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Alhaji BMS Turay had reportedly disclosed that an international Non Governmental Organization, Concern Worldwide has collaborated with the World Health Organization (WHO) to sponsor this years African Traditional Medicine Day commemoration slated for August 31, 2010 in Makeni, north of Sierra Leone. Reports say this is Sierra Leones first time to participate in observing the day as other African countries have been doing it for the past five years now.  The aim of this years celebration is to organize traditional healers in order to accept attitudinal and behavior change.     


43% Increase in Diamond Export


Local tabloids say Sierra Leone has exported $51.4 million worth of diamonds in the first six months of 2010. 43% has been added to the first half of last years grade according to report from Reuters. There is now a global rebound in diamond prices, augmented by government measure to encourage production accounts for the value. Diamond is one of the minerals that are contributing to Sierra Leone developments.


Tension in Sanda Loko Chiefdom


A serious tussle recently erupted between the Bombali District Council, the chiefdom authorities of Sanda and an Independent Councilor, Foday Bah Turay for the award of contract for the rehabilitation of forty years old health centre at Kumalo Town. According to reports, the problem started when the contractor unroofed the building in without the knowledge of stakeholders. This action eventually made the youth to mobilize and force the contractor to leave. Reports further alleged that money was disbursed by NaCSA to District Council to rehabilitate the health centre which was done last year. Since the councilor and the people are insisting on the construction of a community centre, the Bombali District Council and other authorities want to go ahead with the health centre project.
