Sierra Leonean politician Dauda Tombo Bangura has two new assignments. He has been mandated by the leadership of the ruling All People’s Congress(APC) to unite all members of the party in North America. The other assignment is to be in charge of fundraising as the party heads towards the 2012 elections.
DTB, as he is popularly known, is a founding member of the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), who, like many of his colleagues, decided to join the APC a couple of months ago. PMDC was an APC ally in the 2007 elections.
A letter from Victor Foh, APC National Secretary General, states that Tombo has the full mandate of the parent body to unite APC-NA which had been troubled for some time by internal wrangling.
In a short interview with the Patriotic Vanguard, DTB (photo) said be believed he was selected by the APC leadership because he is “trustworthy, capable and mature” to handle the job. “Mind you, brother Gibril, this is a position of trust,” he said.
On the chances of the APC winning the next elections, Dauda Tombo Bangura declared:
“The chances of the APC winning the 2012 elections are very great. I believe Sierra Leoneans appreciate the APC under the robust leadership of President Dr. Earnest Bai Koroma.”
“What he (President Koroma) has done for Sierra Leone for just less than three years in office is unprecedented. We have already seen the good works he has been doing to ensure that our country is governed in a manner that will be beneficial to all and sundry. “
He added: “We have witnessed a rapid transformation in the electricity and water supple sectors, and we have also witnessed the construction of roads nationwide, the introduction of free medical facility for lactating mothers and under five children, the transformation of the former Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation into an independent entity, and of course the positive strides taken to increase the revenue base of the country through the promotion of foreign investments and a lot more.”
DTB, known for his oratorial skills, concluded: “ We are not going to be complacent. We will work hard to ensure that President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is reelected on the first ballot. “
