The Management and Board of Charli-Ann-Nursery and Preparatory School, a non-profit making institution on Thursday 2nd September 2010 donated school materials to vulnerable pupils of the school at their 70 Regent Road Lumley address in Freetown. The ceremony attracted parents and guardians, religious and community leaders, the press and other well wishers. The theme of the ceremony was Help the vulnerable children for a better nation.

Addressing the gathering, the chairman of the ceremony Mr. Tamba David Makieu, a human rights activist said the purpose of the gesture was to enhance the education of the vulnerable pupils of the school, adding that educating the citizenry of Sierra Leone was very essential especially at free cost. Aware of the 2015 target for education for all to meet the Millennium Development Goals [MDGs], the chairman said the founders of the school thought it fit to play their own part to meet the MDG by establishing free school for vulnerable children.

Giving a brief background of the formation of the school, the Proprietress Madam Ann Marie Caulker said the school was established in 2008 with the objective to focus on vulnerable children, especially those of single parents and those who lost their mothers during delivery processes as well as the deprived like those whose parents cannot afford to pay tuition fees and other related school expenses. She said it is out of her meager resources that she manages the school. This school was established to provide free education to under privileged children without any preconditions, she informed, while expressing her pleasure to distribute the donation to the pupils. Today I am proud to on behalf of myself and the school to distribute 250 sets of school uniforms to the pupils because of their pathetic situation, she expressed. She commended the Sierra Leone library Board for donating reading materials to the school.

On behalf of the staff of the school, Pastor Adeyime Cole admonished parents and guardians to instill discipline in their children and wards.  We want to see you as parents encouraging your children to always demonstrate uprightness in their undertakings to make our work easier as teachers, he intimated, adding that teachers alone cannot bring up children as the hours the pupils take with them are very limited.

In her remarks on behalf of the parents, Madam Rebecca Browne commended the proprietress, management and staff of the school for their good gesture and for endeavouring to attend to their children on humanitarian grounds.  She on that note advised her colleague parents to make sure that their children are neatly dressed at all times when going to school.

In his contribution, Media representative Mr. John Mansaray stated that everywhere in the world society always prioritizes education, and in that regard he said the venture taken by Madam Ann-Marie Caulker and other generous partners was a complementary effort to national development in the area of education.
