Two Arrested for Money Doubling


Reports from Kenema, Eastern Sierra Leone have it that two suspects Vicent Kaikai and Abdul Salaam Kargbo are currently detained at the Kenema Police Station  for  offences related to money doubling. The Operations Officer  Inspector Foday  Fofanah  has reportedly informed that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday, August 24 at the Abajeh Guest House Lumbebu Section in Kenema following a tip off from their informants. The suspects according to him were arrested with an unidentified powder substance and the sum of 360,000 Sierra Leone currency notes, seventy-two papers shaped to the size of the Leone bank notes and a liquid substance he described  as  mercury reports added.


Consumers  Blast  GST  Registered Shops


Several customers and traders have revealed that most GST registered shops are not issuing GST receipt to  them , a practice which they referred to as lack of accountability in business transaction. According to report there is an on going confusion between customers and traders over the GST receipt and the subsequent price increment for basic goods and services reports  say . According to reports a week long GST awareness campaign  has been  conducted  by  the Sierra Leone Business Forum (Tax working group) in collaboration with the National Revenue Authority [ NRA] and the Ministry of Finance to harmonize the problem.


UK Firm to Provide Specialist Medical Care in Salone


Reports say UK based Security Company, The Anvil Group has  been awarded a contract by a client to safe guard the health and security of its international work force during a construction project in Sierra Leone. According to report, the medical and security professional called MIRA (Medics in Remote Areas) would  be on the stand by  to administer health care to all employees located in Sierra Leone. According to reports  it would  employ and train workers locally as well as bring in its own people from other countries.


Health Officers  Discuss  HIV/AIDS Strategy


The Ministry of Health and Sanitation  in partnership with World Health Organization  [WHO]   last Wednesday held a consultative dialogue on a new draft of the WHO global strategy plan for 2011 to 2015 being a document for the fight against HIV/AIDS at WHO Conference Room  River Side Drive Off  King Harman Road   in Freetown. The purpose of the conference was for stakeholders to discuss the draft document and see how it could be made fit into the National Action Plan in the fight against HIV/AIDS.


Student  Collapses in Court


One Adama Koroma a student of Kabala Secondary School past Friday August 27th 2010 collapsed in the High Court of Makeni  Northern Sierra Leone presided over by Justice Sam Margai report says. According to court commentators Adama Koroma fell to the ground when an eight-year jail sentence was slammed on her with an alternative fine of Le 10,000,000 (Ten Million Leones).


Mano River Union Youths  Search for Peace


Youths from the Mano River Union (MRU) basin are reported to be searching for peace due to the fragility of security in that part of the Sub Region. According to local tabloids reports youths from Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea are currently at Gendema South of Sierra Leone  under  the auspices of West African Youth  Network and have made a resounding call on their respective governments and people not to relent and remain complacent in the search for peace and security.

      
CSVs  Decry Financial Support on Security.


The Chairman of the Community Safety Volunteers [CSV] Kissy Police Division, Ibrahim Bangura has decried the financial support  they are receiving from the Sierra Leone Police .The  CSV Project was initiated by the former Inspector General of Police Brima Acha Kamara to involve  the youths in the policing of their different communities reports say. Ibrahim Bangura said ,the CSVs are jointly working with the Sierra Leone Police especially at night to combat armed robbery adding that they have gone for three months  without getting anything   from the SLP to support their operations at night.


Journalists  Schooled on Early Warning Responses.


The Search For Common Ground [SFCG] over the weekend held a-three- day training for journalists on Early Warning Systems and Conflict Preventoin at the J&EResort in Bo ,Southern Sierra Leone .The purpose of the training was to find ways in preventing violence and to preserve stability in order to promote  freedom of information.
