Attorney General Returns Home in Wheelchair??


Report monitored from local newspapers  have it that Attorney General  and Minister of Justice,  Hon.Abdul Serry-Kamal Esq. has returned to Sierra Leone from abroad, supposedly carried in a wheel chair for ostensibly suffering from stroke. The attack reportedly affected him while he was abroad on officials matters. Reports say the Minister was rushed to a hospital in the west of Freetown for urgent medical attention. There has been no official confirmation of the report causing many readers to doubt the authenticity of the report as local tabloids are known for manufacturing sensational ailments of Government functionaries and Celebrities in order to sell their papers.


APRM Governing Council
Signs MOU

 

The chairman, National Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Dr. Osman Gbla has stated that the Country Support Mission from APRMs Continental Secretariat in South African was in Sierra Leone from 31st August- 3rd September 2010 to sign the technical Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Sierra Leone and the APRM Panel, local tabloids say. Reports further intimate that the signing of the MOU indicates the advanced stage the APRM implementation process has reached in the country. The delegation also reported to have held consultations with APRMs National Governing Council, Technical Research Institutions, International Development Partners and other stakeholders to ensure that the process is sustainable.


Notorious Armed Robber Arrested in Bo


It has been reported in the dailies that a notorious armed robber identified as Joseph Fofanah who at one time escaped from police custody has been re-arrested in Bo City, Southern Sierra Leone by personnel of the SLP.  According to reports, Joseph was earlier arrested in Kenema for offences related to house breaking and armed robbery where he is reported to have escaped. Joseph is presently in police custody helping in their investigations.


49 Years Old Man Rapes Girl 9

 

Newspaper reports have it that a forty-nine year old Musa Kanu, said to be a plumber and resident of Water Street, Congo Town in western Freetown has been arraigned in court on an alleged rape charge of a nine-year-old girl. According to reports the victim, who was on an errand with her friend was unsuspectingly called upon by the 49 years old and forced her into his room on the pretext of giving her something. Reports further that the victim returned from the perpetrators room bitterly crying after being raped.  When asked by her elder sister why she was crying, the victim is said to have explained her ordeal. The two sisters then made a report to the police.

 

Energy Minister Condemns Imported Water

 

Reports say the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Prof. Ogunlade Davidson has expressed his dissatisfaction over the taste of some imported water in Sierra Leone. According to reports, the minister recently felt bad when he tasted a particular brand of water. He is reported to have revealed that water laboratories need to be set up in the country in a bid to providing potable water across the country.


Guineans Invade Kailahun for Free Health Care Drugs

 

Local tabloid reports have it that the free health care service launched by the government of Sierra Leone has attracted the attention of criminals from Guinea who are now reportedly working with counterparts in Sierra Leone to deny the people access to the service. Reports  say  the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation  Mohamed D Koroma  has been informed about the presence of Guineans in the  Kailahun District, Eastern  Sierra Leone  who have come to illegally benefit from the service and in some cases smuggle  the drugs to Guinea for sale


JSDP Ends training on SGBV


Newspaper reports  say the Justice Sector Development  Programme has ended a two-day legal training on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) issues for  civil  society members, NGOs  the police and other service providers  in Kenema, Eastern Sierra Leone. Reports say the training covered modules on the roles and responsibilities of service providers and how to monitor court proceedings on SGBV issues in their respective areas.
